So, let's swap stories:
Where do you like to party / meet people / get wasted and fight / hook up / go clubbing / whatever?
Aside from the inconspicuous back-alley where I gain unlawful employment, I sometimes hit up club NB in Gangnam. Pretty large hip hop nightclub that's packed like a sardine tin on the weekends. If you like crowds, popular hip hop and R&B, and college age Koreans dancing fairly poorly, then this is the spot for you. Usually there is only a small handful of foreigners in the club at any given time. 15,000 cover charge includes 1 free drink and access to another Rap club across the street. Hilarity is usually bound to ensue after a few drinks. Drama can be added for an extra charge upstairs. |

I used to like going there, but recently my friends and I (including Koreans) have been treated extremely poorly by the adult staff and the thuggish wannabe college-age punks they employ as security.
That, and I just can't dance to "You got a $20 bill git yo hands up!" kind of rap they've been playing. The first few times I went, they had a couple of good DJs playing quality hip hop, but now I feel like I'm watching MTV's "The Grind" when I'm in there.
I'll pass on it... |

Maybe I've seen too many trashy TV shows, but "party" always seems to mean illicit sex these days. It's something a hooker would say to you when you're stopped at a light with the window down. |

I like 'The Bar' in Sinchon. Actually the bar which I'm reffering to is called something else, but it is in the basement of the same building and eveyone I know calls it 'the Bar.'
Laid back, slightly grungy atmosphere to the place (especially the toilets...) they play a variety of music styles and do requests. Usually a good mis of foriegners and Koreans having fun, never seen much in the way of bad attitudes or trouble. |

Me and the crewsual call it "The Dirty Bar"...I've heard it referred to as this by people outside of my circle as well. Rather fitting, considering I've actually been snowed on in their bathroom, which should be a Korean National Treasure.
I go there to drink, not to party. |

I've been to that one. I think I drew on their tables. The bathroom upstairs really is strange - half broken most of the time, but there is always toilet paper in the hallway, so I'm cool with it all.
I do like the variety of music they play though. Big collection. |

I like dirty bars - heh heh.
Yeah, the toilets need some work done though... lol...
Partying to me is drinking... I guess most people mean dancing or nightclubbing when they say partying...? |

i like club ff in hongdae and the spot, across from the playground, also in hongdae, both have good live music and their dj's collections aren't too shabby either. the pink button is great for dancing and checking out cute k-grrls, however, the bar is hands down my favourite place to drink, meet people and party (whatever that word means to you...)

"The Bar" that you guys are referring to is called "놀리". Same furniture supplier as Woodstuck apparently.
I like to party at a small/medium club in Hongdae because my friend is a bartender there... and her bartender friends are hot... and I don't pay cover... and she tells hot customer girls to go talk to me because I'm "작해" so they do... its nice. |

Is that the play bar or whatever it is in Korean? Something like 놀다바 or something.. I only went there once. The bathrooms sound familiar.. That's the one with that dude who writes on the Marmot Hole DJing sometimes (Shelton Bumgarner.. I assume that's a pseudonym..)
Still that bathroom is far better than the (unisex)one I visited in a bar down here in the country recently. For the guys it was fine, there was a urinal. But for the girls there was nothing. Girls had to piss on the floor, then use a hose to wash the floor off. (Like most Korean bathrooms there was a plughole in the corner, so it wasn't like a piss-bath, but still..) Anyway, no No.2s there. My new chick co-worker who'd been living in Thailand for a coupla years was not impressed, I think she said "At least they have a hole in the ground in Thailand.."
Anyway I normally party in my apartment. Or the local drinking hofs with whatever girl I'm dating. Sometimes the local nightclub (which is a young persons' booking/dancing/stripping/fruit-platters-and-waiters club) but too many of my students see me there which leads to awkwardness in class so I'm kinda off that..
Last time i went to Seoul though I went to the aforementioned bar which was boring, Route 66 in Hongdae which was OK because of the company I was already with, Club FF which was good because I liked the band that was playing, Spot Bar which was OK because I often like their music, and Tin Pan Alley 2 which was funny because I nearly got beten up on two counts which weren't were my fault (stupid flirty girls hitting on me when they have boyfriends in the bar already..), and the fact some random guy bought me shots and beer because it was his birthday. |

What's your definition of good clubbing hip hop? I always thought that those kind of songs were meant to be played at clubs? I mean you wouldn't expect them to play some Common or Atmosphere or something |
