What kind of info do they want and do they play a huge role in getting you hired? I have had some issues in the past (cancer etc). Will this make me ineligible?
Cheers

The only thing they are concerned with is. "are you alive and will you stay alive and able to complete your contract without taking sick days?"
I have never had a medical for employment purposes in Korea.
Some of the government programs may ask for one, but it is not a big issue. |

It depends who you work for. Some of my friends have presented any papers or seen a physician for job in Korea. Some of my friends have brought papers from the their home country stating they had a clean bill of health and never saw a physician here in Korea. Some of my friends had to write a "statement" saying they had a clean bill of health. Some had to go to a physician and get a specific form filled out here in Korea.
Many people who ask this question (but not you, of course) are worried about the toxins in their system. Just quit your habit before you come here, giving yourself ample time to clear out your system in case you fill that cup. |

I told my employer that I'm in good health and didn't want to take the exam. He waived the requirement because I asked. Consider asking if you can take an exam to ensure you're in good health, but I wouldn't submit past medical records. Your cancer experience is private. So try to have the exam focused on your current state of health. I won't work for a school that places a heavy emphasis on my health. It would make me nervous and constantly worried about getting sick, which in turn could bring on illness. (Example: the relationship between stress and ulcers.)
Korea needs teachers, so be selective.
