Even small towns with only one or two supermarkets carry these. They are popular in Korea.

I have bought these occasionally and are found at the following two small import stores: often at the "Red Door" in Itaewon and virtually always at the clear door at the Admiral Hotel shopping centre on Geoje-do. |

If you are a health food freak, life in Korea is going to be a little bit hard for you, or at the very least involve spending almost every waking moment in pursuit of particular foodstuffs. Some of these things may be available at organic groceries or vegetatian buffets (the restaurants often sell groceries near the register.) |

...in Korea. thanks in advance.
Oily Fish
Mackerel
Kippers
Seeds
Poppy seeds
Pumpkin seeds - yes, they love pumpkin here. You may need to learn recipes you like for them.
Linseed
Sunflower seeds - yes, many places
Nuts
Almonds - yes, many places
Pine nuts - expect to pay a lot
Hazelnuts - expect to pay a lot
Brazil nuts - expect to pay a lot
Cashew nuts - expect to pay a lot
Wholemeal bread - hard to find, but doable. expensive
Flaxseed oil
Salmon oil
Cottage cheese - no, learn how to make your own.
Quark
Oats / oatmeal - quaker oats can be found here at import/black market stores. I usually pay 12,000 for hte foot tall can
Wheetabix
Muesli - ungodly expensive. like 15 bucks for a small box.
Wholegrain brown rice - this is Korea. They have a lot of rice. They do have brown rice, but not sure if its wholegrain.
Brown spaghetti - they have colored spaghetti at a lot of big marts. I'm not sure that its wholewheat though. I've seen spinch, wheat, and tomato pasta
Wholemeal pittas - no
Nut butters (healthy varieties only) - maybe at healthfood stores
Whey protein powder (concentrate or isolate) - blackmarket
L Glutamine
Dextrose
Maltodextrin
also do they have a GNC in Korea or an equivalent? - They do have GNC, but I would bet that its ungodly expensive. Check hte blackmarket for a lot of the health supplements.
**In general, if you need this stuff to survive, do not come here. Pickings are slim here, so you have to enjoy and indulge in what you get. Comfort foods go farther than you might think to keep you sane. If you need this tuff, you won't make it. I used to be a vegetarian. I've started eating chicken b/c its just too difficult otherwise. |

For Oatmeal, Protein and other weightlifting stuff, check the underground area in Namdaemun. They have all sorts of stuff, and are generally cheaper than Red Door in Itaewon. |

Cottage Cheese can be bought at Hannam Market in Seoul, it sells out fast, you need to try to go to buy it during the weekdays, it's gone by the weekends. Fat free though. As for the GNC's, they are here, however they do not carry the same items as back home, and are crazy expensive.
Check out expatexpress.com, they can ship a lot of food and diet items to South Korea. Prices are reasonable, shipping is about $15. Cheers! |
