I've got this 1gb usb drive loaded with data from students and today I found out that it isn't working. I put it in different ports but keep getting a access denied message.

I'm guessing the drive is fried, but if anyone has some idea of how I could get access to what's on the drive I would be very grateful.

I have to ask the obvious...the lock isn't on, is it? Try right clicking the drive and check the properties. After that, permissions?

I have heard of these drives failing when there is too much data written to the drive. I guess you have tried it on other systems?

That's a coincidence because my little thumbdrive failed yesterday too. I can open and read files already on it but I can't add files to it. Checked properties. Nothing unusual. There's only 8MB used out of 128MB. Guess I'll just get my school to but me another one!! Laughing

no lock. I tried it on my work computer and it would only work on one USB slot. The other one got the same error. Anyhow I took that opportunity to move everything to the office computer and I guess it will stay there until I get a new USB drive.

Anyone got a better idea.

Now that everything's backed up try formatting it.

good idea, but that will have to wait until I go to work on MOnday since I can't access the drive at home.
