I am guessing that his seven year old son won't be downloading anything from P2P clients, going to serialz/warez/crackz sites, surfing for porn, or doing anything on Korean sites!

Gee, since I have all the software I need for work & play (I'm no gamer) life's just gotten doubleplusgood for me! 
But seriously, Demophobe, I'm not a machead. I'm a bi-computeral.  And I'm also in the market for a SFF pc. I was either going to start a thread or send a PM to you. Been looking at Shuttle, AOPEN, some recent models by Samsung & TriGem. Anything you might recommend? Gotta be small, gotta be sexy, gotta be first-kid-on-my-block-ish, gotta be available in Korea. Price doesn't matter as much as blazing-hot designer-edginess and blazing-hot small-form-factor-ness. |

Yeah, just having fun mate.
You know, a friend of mine bought the top notch Shuttle system about 6 months ago and I helped him put it all together. It didn't work from the start, and 3 trips to Seoul later, it remained a table...a $500 table at that.
It seems the A/S for Shuttle in Korea is somewhat lacking. The original mainboard on the unit was physically damaged upon close inspection, so we were told it would be replaced. We got the unit back to find that the holes attatching the mainboard to the floor of the box were drilled out to make them wider. There are metal o-rings that surround these holes for grounding, and the holes had been tapped out so wide, these metal rings were gone. The board again didn't work. Anyways, to make a long story short, the Shuttle Korea boys are really bucketheads.
If you are in Korea for a while yet, go with a local build. I haven't seen the Samsung or Trigem products, but if they seem reasonable, go that way. I assume they have a barebones package? That's what you want. Buying a complete build from those boys will give you a system full of Samsung parts, which, as far as RAM goes, could be worse, but what you want to do is pick your own guts for the beast.
So, get a barebones system (box and custom mainboard, or mini-ATX form factor), then choose the RAM, HDD, Graphics, etc... on your own. If you do get a ready-to-go, pre-built machine, post the specs here and let us pick it apart to make sure it will suit your needs. Not that you can't do this alone, but there are some really competent people here who can offer some good advice and find the weakest link in a system.

..except it will crash more and you'll have to download drivers for everything -- but at least it will look almost identical to the Mac OS.

Yes, but I already have two Mac minis. It's a Windows PC at my home that I'm looking to replace (with another Windows machine) at this time, and I'd like it to be as small as possible.
Alternatively, I could -- but won't -- run Windows with Parallels Desktop for Mac if I had a Macintel mini, which I don't. Mine are both over a year old and they're G4s. One of the new(er) Mac minis with Core Duo and extra memory and HD space would cost around 1.2 million won. Then I'd have to buy Parallels (US$80) and whichever Windows OS I decide on. Not worth the extra cost, time and hassle. And I'd rather use a switch and two separate systems for the two OSes. I never liked Virtual PC and even if Parallels is better (I've read it has some printing issues), I'd rather not. |

| The XBOX360 is an awesome project to get into if you're computer savvy. With it you can play any videos, watch tv and browse the net as well as play games. |
