I wear a suit to work everyday - different suit each day, currently have 6 in rotation and looking to get up to eight so I can go two weeks without repeating a suit.

Anyhow my question is how often do you dryclean? I am very inconsistent in when I get them drycleaned. Always at the end of the semester, but throughout it usually depends on if I think about it or get some chalk marks that I can't easily remove.

How many wearings before a dryclean?

I bought my suit from Value Village over three years ago. I wore it to Japan and didn't clean it, wore it to China and didn't clean it, waded through more mosh pits than I can count, spilled nearly every alcoholic beverage on it known to man, and still it's fine. Of course I usually only wear it in dark places.

What sort of job do you have that requires a suit everyday?

Anyway, to answer the question, dry cleaning (as already mentioned) is pretty hard on a suit. Only dry clean when it is absolutely necessary - noticeably dirty or smelly.

not required, I wear it by choice.

You should not dryclean a suit more than once every six months.

If you don't dryclean, how do you clean it? Particularly if you wear a suit everday!

spot clean, air the suit occasionally, hang the jacket and trouser separately, steam press

have a number of suits of reasonable quality fabric-wise and rotate them

i wouldn't dryclean more than twice a year unless i fully threw up on the thing

I've always found that a few nice slaps take care of chalk marks on my suits.

According to esuit.com

Dry Cleaning Your Suit
December 28, 2004 By Jerry Thomas
So you think your suit needs dry cleaning? Think again!
How would you like to be submersed in a liquid for 20 minutes and then spun around until you have no life left? You wouldnt, so I suggest you treat your suits the same way.
One of the biggest factors in shortening the life of a suit is unnecessary dry cleaning. Our recommendation would be to dry clean your suit no more than 3 or 4 times a year, assuming that you dont change the motor oil, cut the lawn or stain the suit. If your suit meets your favorite food then immediately take it to the cleaners, but ask them to try to clean the spot out rather than dry cleaning the entire suit. itll save a lot of wear and tear on your suit. Dont try and remove the stain yourself, leave that to the professional. Inform them of the type of spot you have.

A few good tips on keeping your suits looking new
Store suits on the original hanger when not being worn. Wide hangers keep the shoulders from sagging. Wool has memory - wrinkles will hang out.
Never button the suit jacket or zip the pants while storing. This is the only time you can keep your pants unzipped.
Brush your suit after each wearing. It takes off the surface dirt.
Dry clean your suit no more than 3 or 4 times a year.
Find a reputable dry cleaner (you get what you pay for).
Always clean both jacket and pants together. Colors may undergo subtle changes in the dry cleaning process.
Request hand pressing of the jacket (lapels need to be rolled).

Hapki,
I guess that's the advice from professionals and what I'll follow. It says to brush your suit, any special sort of brush needed for this?

One of my former colleagues at an adult hagwon had the same cigarette ash smudge on his waistcoat for the whole time I knew him. He had no shame as an ambassador for his culture whatsoever. He was one of the most popular teachers, too - it must have been morbid fascination on the part of the students.

I wear a suit evey day and have about 6 of them.

On average i think I mist dry clean them about once a month.

One thing that I do now though, is when I get a suit made I get two pants made (matcing). Pants seem to take a lot more stress from me than my jackets.

Always buy two pairs of trousers when you get a new suit.
