My computer is connected to the University network.
It disconnects and reconnects every 5 minutes.
This is because the IP lease expiry time is set to 10 minutes, and windows attempts to to acquire a new IP lease when the time is half-over. This is very very annoying. It makes downloading anything that takes more than 5 minutes impossible. It annoys people when I'm instant messaging them and constantly keep signing out. It keeps interrupting radio stations I listen to online etc. I imagine that if I was playing online games it would mess them up too.
Is there anyway I can change the IP lease time from my computer? Or can it only be changed from the server side? Why is it set up so stupidly.. |

I'm pretty sure this can only be changed via the DHCP server which on the public wireless network you will not have access to. My router acts as DHCP server and I can access it and change the lease time but only because I have admin rights.
I may be wrong though. |
