I think I applied for that job early last year. Are you the lucky applicant who beat me? Sounds like I should be glad.

After reading your post, I have a question. Do you work for John Shin Top? I work for John Shin Top and there isnt any reason why I would not recommend anyone else working here. John Shin pays his employees on time. You have a very set schedule. The Korean teachers are all helpful and kind. There is nothing out of the ordinary for a normal, sane person to complain about.

I wish that before you can past judgment on any situation that you yourself go through the situation. I know that you have been hearing very negative things about John Shin Top but you should first judge the source of that information. The person whom you have been getting your information from, has been very negative about everything here in Korea. From day one, nothing has been to her liking. We sometimes go through a honeymoon period when starting something new and somewhat exciting. However, this person has never had any good to say about anything she has experienced here in Korea. But you dont have to take my word on this; speak to the other four foreign teachers working at John Shin Top and you should also speak to the Korean teachers who work with this individual.

I would not have extended my contract if John Shin Top was half as bad as portrayed by your friend. Neither would the last two teachers whose contract was up. When were you at John Shin Top?

You should have known that John Shin does not equal Jo Shim

swade- I only posted that applicants should be VERY careful about this school.

ALL applicants should be VERY CAREFUL about applying to ALL hogwans. If there are problems at a school, EVERY potential applicant should be made fully aware of the issues- lest they fall prey to the same problems. We SHOULD look out for each other, RIGHT? That's what this website is all about- looking out for each other.

Oh, and personal attacks on your co-workers are in bad taste. Whoever that other teacher is, he didn't post anything personal about you. In fact, nothing has been posted here that could be seen as any kind of personal flame of the school or anyone who works there-EXCEPT your post. If you choose to take sides with the school against another teacher- that's your business- but personal attacks on the internet when that man has posted nothing about you? C'mon, that's not in good taste.

Oh, and what have you done to help that other teacher? Maybe YOU are part of the problem at that hogwan?

Not every teacher is a good fit and not everyone who comes to teach in Korea has social skills. I've re-signed with my school three times but if you asked the witch I replaced, who spent every day screaming at the front desk staff because her apartment didn't have enough forks, well I'm sure she has a different story.

There are some people that never seem to last in a job and it's always the fault of the employer. Bad coworkers out to get him/her. An ahole boss. Impossible demands, like the person is asked to come to work on time...

Yeah, if a school has multiple teachers re-signing contracts, that's certainly a good sign. If the OP has a different view on the school, maybe she should look at herself as the root source of the problem. I wish her luck.

The OP (me!) is NOT the problem, believe me. Wink

BTW- thanks to everyone for helping keep this thread bumped. Very Happy

Not enough forks?!!! What do they expect; her to buy extra forks herself??? Outrageous!!!

OMG! Is there no end to the outrageous things these schools will demand. Argh. The mind boggles. Koreans are Keu-razy!

True, and some just freak out being in a foreign land, and little things seem magnified.

I can sort of understand if some Koreans think foreigners are freaky, but part of it's being in a foreign land. Some people just become strange when put in a strange place.

There will always be some who just give it a try, and find out after a while, "uh oh, this is not for me."

Workplace issues are more important than personal flames. Swade should understand this.
