Meteorologists advised residents to prepare for the worst. More heavy rainfall is expected. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) has issued heavy rain warnings for islands off the west coast and Kangwon Province.
"Traditionally, we only have occasional showers after the monsoon season is over. But we are receiving unusually late heavy rainfall and this is expected to continue until the end of August," Yoon Suk-hwan, an official at the KMA, said yesterday.

Your point? What do you think? What's your attitude? How does it relate to your experience? Is it unusual? You leave one wanting something more.
You like to post straight info, and that's great. How about starting a thread for "Real Reality News". You can update it as regularly as you have been beginning new threads. |

| AS I play a weatherman sometimes on TV, (had to say that) I have noticed that Koreans look at their weather patterns and generalize. Like the above article implies, they think it strange that it would rain so much in August, bacause it doesn't fit the mold of their one dimensional thinking. For the past 8 August I have lived here, it has rained hard, but they learn in school it only rains hard during the 'rainy season'. So it is strange to them. (Change the educational system away from memorizing facts to some ablity to process data and draw conclusions and this might change) Going through weather lessons is also interesting, for Koreans always say for winter that Korea is cold and snowy. (ie. fact, what they memorized in school) Snowy my a s s. Koreans don't know what big snow is. (No international comparison) Korean is cold and dry in the winter, and when I say this I get looks of disbelief, like a pissed on their grandfathers graves in drunken stupor and can't really be blamed. |

I couldn't agree more.
We're getting into the time of year when the Korean '4 distinct season' thing really starts to annoy me. Why?
Because they think, no, religiously believe, that towards the end of August and into september the weather will be cool. No exceptions!!!
This means that any day soon all the air-conditioners in this country will be turned off untill next June.
The possibility of a hot day in September is not even considered!! The mantra is,
"But no, in Korea the fall is cool"
Even if you get a day of 30 degrees in september they will not turn the bloody air-con on!!!!
Sigh...........rant over. |
