Some of you may recall my post on the question and answer forum several months back about the trouble I was having with a Korean dentist who told me that I had several cavities and that I needed all my silver fillings removed and replaced with resin ones. I decided to wait until I could go home over summer vacation and then see an American dentist.

Well, I have just returned from several glorious weeks in the good ol' US of A. While I was there I went to an American dentist who took X-rays (the Korean one hadn't) and looked closely at my teeth. His verdict: I have no cavities and do not need my fillings replaced! No big surprise there, really. I just think this episode says a great deal about Korea, although nothing that we don't know already.

I also went to see an optometrist while I was in the States, and again the contrast with Korea was striking. Instead of just giving me a cursory exam to spit out a prescription, the American optometrist took the care to shine many lights into my eyes, examining them for their health. Then he gave me a really accurate prescription for glasses and contacts, with the result that I can see much better. I had worn Korean glasses and contacts for so long that I hadn't realized how poor my sight was. It's nice to be able to see again, even if I only have Korea to look at.

Dentists can be rather scary here. I found a great one in Kangnam who's western educated with a PHD in dentistry and speaks good English.
He's excellent. PM me if anyone would like his tel. number.

I've found a great guy in Inchon and I had a western educated guy in Taegu. Both are fluent in English and exceptional dentists. PM me for their numbers and locations

Since good dental care is important to making everyone's stay in Korea a pleasant one, Very Happy maybe it would be an idea to have a sticky or resource list of competent English-speaking dentists by region.

Yes!

Please please please make a sticky about good dentists and doctors by region... I know there are a lot of horror stories out there, and I've been through a couple bad experiences myself...

And also I think it would help to list dentists and doctors of different specializations...

Thanks!
