There is a larger percentage of people with AIDS. Why are you getting worked up about something that is basically the truth. Even if ithe truth is a bit warped. |
The USA has twice as many people with HIV/AIDS than Thailand. |
The USA also has about four times the population of Thailand. Don;t get me wrong - I love Thailand. But there is a huge AIDS epidemic there.

Your right Green Tea us Thai people are only to blame for HIV/AIDS. I hope that someday you come to Thailand. I will meet you at the airport. You don't have to buy a roundtrip ticket because you will never have to leave. I will take care of you permanently. You comments are narrow minded and sound as racist and ignorant as the Original posters' boss. |
Dude, I don't think he's saying all Thai people have AIDS. He's probably just commenting on the fact that a large number of Korean men take "sex trips" to Thailand to hook up with the hookers. Thai HOOKERS have AIDS. |

Just thought I would add this to give some perspective. This is the total % of the population with AIDS and their ranking in the world. This is from the CIA fact book website.
49. Thailand 1.50 2003 est.
71. United States 0.60 2003 est. |

Had. Thailand has done well to contain the spread there, thanks to insightful people like former Bangkok Mayor Meechai. At around 9 infections per thousand people, its comparitely low compared to Africa and the coming problems in India, China and Eastern Europe. Sorry to nitpick, but I just get sick of the assumption that the streets there are full of HIV+ people. |

Nothing said by Koreans and accepted as fact would surprise me in this country. That's all I have to say on this topic. |

Um . . . Korea's AIDS problem has been well-documented here and in the papers. Somebody can search for the article that said 2 new Koreans each day contract AIDS. There was also a huge 10-pager here about it over the summer.
Obviously Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries have contributed to this. (Thailand's AIDS problem is no secret to anyone, sorry to say). But let's not forget we're talking about Korea here. Koreans are known sex tourists, who bring the disease back with them. That plus the general unwillingness to wear condoms---the negative implicatiouns that go along with it---have caused the disease to spread around pretty quickly.
The stereotype that foreigners have AIDS is an old one. Part of it probably comes from all the 3D workers that come into the country (obviously some of them are bound to have AIDS). Then you've got the stereotype that westerners are sex addicts, coupled with the unnatural fear of anything foreign . . . well, there you go. |

Jeez, let's leave Thailand out of this thread. What a sideshow.
And if someone here is familiar with or working in Mokdong, can you verify or add to the OP's statements? |

Ah, JG, I think we merely need to sit back and congratulate the OP; the troll worked brilliantly - a provocative title, an unverifiable outrageous claim, a URL to be posted later... Genius. |

My school have recently embarked on building a website for the school (about time).
My Korean coworker printed off some websites of other schools to research what we need.
I have to confirm the name of the school's website he showed me the other day but I think it was CJY or CYI school in Mokdong.
On their website, they proudly state that they do NOT hire any foreign teachers. They use only Korean and Kyopo teachers, and they give 10 reasons for not hiring foreign (native) teachers on their site.
I do not read Korean but my coworker read them to me.
I will ask him for the site URL and post it in the next few days, but included in the 10 reasons were:
- many foreign teachers have aids.
- many foreign teachers are gay.
- they have no sense of duty or responsibilty
- they do not care for Korean children at all and just want to have fun.
- they mostly come from bad universities and have poor qualifications.
Some of these may be true for some teachers, but such statements are rather shocking to read or see.
I will source website and post link when I get a chance.

Can foreigners engage in a class action suit against
that hagwon. It would send a message in the papers. This is blatant discrimination. It needs to be rectified. Look, foreigners protect South Korea from being invaded. I am not sure how ready their armed forces are for a full fledged invasion from the North.
As far as duty, many foreigners go beyond what their job tells them, and some shirk their duties. But you have plenty of Korean companies who do not fulfill their contractual obligations under their contract. How many have tried to not pay the severance? There are good and bad hagwons.
This holier-than-thou attitude makes me want to laugh. And as far as being gay, Koreans just hide that they are gay, if they are gay. That is the only difference.
There is the claim we come from bad universities and have poor qualifications. So are they telling us the Koreans who can't speak
great English, in many cases, are more qualified?
This stuff needs to stop. |

Just so you all calm down as to with who has more AIDS. AIDS is a gloabl disease, there is no country that hasn't been affected by this plague. This "website" if it exists is just an example of stupidity and probably why the person or people who designed will probably get HIV as a result of their own ignorance. For those of you interested in learning something other than what the Korean's or Wikipedia has to teach you, you can go here:
http://www.unaids.org/en/
or the best documentary in the world on HIV is here:

First of all, I must say that most of you that view Thailand as a sex country are ignorant low class people. Yes, Thailand does have a problem with HIV and AIDs. But one of the reasons that Thailand has so many reported cases is that many people get tested. Koreans do very little HIV testing. I imagine that the number of Koreans with HIV is more than 3x the amount that is known.
Other countries that have a higher HIV rate per capita, Russia, India, rural parts of Africa.
I have lived in Thailand more than half of my 39 years of life and I have never seen a prostitute ever. The reason is, I don't go to the few areas that focus on such things. If you don't go to night bars or massage houses, you don't see those things.
Do you view Amercia and americans based solely on what happens in Las Vegas or Hollywood's depictions.
The truth is that any and all prostitutes regardless of race or nationality are at high risk for HIV/AIDS. Especially those that don't use condoms. Why just focus on Thai people (that shows your ignorance and racist attitudes)
Because for the many years neglecting the problem of HIV aids in prostitution the problem reached a great epidemic but for the last 8-10 years there have been a lot of programs to combat the spread.
For the final record, the majority of HIV AIDs being spread currently is as a direct result of IV drug use and not prostitution.
To signal out a country and its people as the cause and spread of AIDS is not only ignorant but dangerous. It is a global problem and anyone and everyone can be affected and infected.
I don't know what country you are from Green Tea but I bet I could easily find some negative stereotypes about your culture and race.
In my family, my sister never even kissed her husband until the wedding day. Thai people and women are more proper than women from your country. There are low class people in Thailand but most people are pure and good intentioned. Not low life prostitutes. If you view the women in my country as prostitutes, you might as well call my mother, sister, wife and daughter all prostitutes.
Lets see how long you would live after you said that. Perhaps you should rethink your perception and notion of an entire culture of people. That goes to the rest of you that think of my country as a sex holiday. There is more purity here and more tenderness than found almost anywhere in the world.
Most women in Thailand don't even know what a *beep* looks like until they are married. Could any Western women say the same. |

Everybody has got AIDS.
Everyone has AIDS!
AIDS AIDS AIDS!
AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS!
Everyone has AIDS!
And so this is the end of our story
And everyone is dead from AIDS
It took from me my best friend
My only true pal
My only bright star (he died of AIDS)
Well I'm gonna march on Washington
Lead the fight and charge the brigades
There's a hero inside of all of us
I'll make them see everyone has AIDS
My father (AIDS!)
My sister (AIDS!)
My uncle and my cousin and her best friend (AIDS AIDS AIDS!)
The gays and the straights
And the white and the spades
Everyone has AIDS!
My grandma and my dog 'ol blue (AIDS AIDS AIDS)
The pope has got it and so do you (AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS)
C'mon everybody we got quilting to do (AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS AIDS)
We gotta break down these baricades, everyone has
AIDS! x 20 [/url] |

I'd also like to mention to the people suggesting Thailand as a source that China is just as likely, if not more so, to be the transmission point these days. |
