How about some of ol' Velvet Nose - Warren Zevon? I would recommend any of these three albums:

Warren Zevon
Sentimental Hygiene
Life'll Kill Ya

U2
Van Morrison
Willie Nelson
Wall of Voodoo
Yazz

You alphabetize according to first name? Go according to last and you might get a bigger batch.

I highly recommend all of the following all of which generally don't get the exposure and recognition they deserve (in some cases 'deserved', since at least one band on the list is defunct and one artist is dead):

The Hold Steady - Boys And Girls of America

Yo la Tengo - I am not afraid of you and I will beat your ass

Death Cab for Cutie - Plans (I wouldn't normally recommend sappy emo but this album is good, esp. the single "crooked Teeth")

The Decemberists - The Crane Wife

Thievery Corporation - Cosmic game (+special guest artists! such as The Flaming Lips, Perry Farrell, David Byrne...)

TV on Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

Anything by Ted Leo that you can get your hands on.

Wilco and Gomez. If you don't know where to start with them, in the last they both put out amazing double live albums for the first time. Gomez' is "Out West" and Wilco's is "Kicking Television: Live in Chicago"

Sufjan Stevens "Illinois" may very well change your life

The Go! Team

Neutral Milk Hotel

The Engineers - Home

Elbow- Leaders of the Free World

Belle & Sebastian - the Life Pursuit (reminds me of the Housemartins)

New Pornographers- Twin Cinema

Zero 7 either of their 2 albums (electronica, somewhat mellow but really smooth)

OK GO - OH NO (yeah, the treadmill guys- it's a catchy album!)

The Flaming Lips (of course)

Rogue Wave (probably the first album)

Pinback

Phoenix - Alphabetical (Airy French jazz-pop, sung in English)

Elliott Smith

You might also like some

(unless you count them as S and P artists)

Waterboys

The Unicorns - great, albeit defunct montreal band. Good indie pop music (2 members ended up creating Islands)

The Verve - Brit pop at its best

I saw you already dug wolf Parade, right on. Check out Sunset Rubdown, it's Spencer's Krug's other project.

Xavier Rudd - australian musician, plays guitars and djiridoos

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - good dance rock music for fans of Metric
