I don't think so.
One thing unions have going for them back home is that they are local citizens who unionize to exercise rights they otherwise understand they are granted.
We don't really have those same rights here. I mean you can fight for what you believe in and all, and even win some things, but you can't really expect the government to endorse punitive actions by foreign guests against its own citizens, even if they are corrupt hagwon owners. (I know, redundancy).
I hope I'm wrong, but it would be like a bunch of people showing up at your house, and then thos same guests getting upset at the way you're treating them, and then those same people banding together as a union and taking action against you in your own house, refusing to speak with you except on their terms.
Does the very thought of such an intrusion not make you want to immediately blow them all away or at least send them fleeing for their lives if you could?
But I would heartily encourage opposing opinions to demonstrate why I'm wrong, because regardless of our guest status I would like to see stronger action against slander, corruption and embezzlement which is rampant in this country especially against upstanding foreigners.
The whole process might even aid Koreans in do better business. |

Under the terms of your visa (E1 / E2 among others) you are forbidden by law to engage in union or political activities.
Go ahead and unionize.
Aside from that, how are you going to unionize a bunch of 20 somethings who are only here for a year or less and mostly couldn't give a rats axx?

Six weeks sounds about right.
The following thread shows the results of a gathering with lawyers, teachers, and Korean govt officials on serious discussion over how to possibly do this and later deemed why it will never happen. If one has more contacts and influence to pull this off than who were in this room, my hat goes off to you.

Otherwise, see you in six weeks time, when the next 'who's with me?' thread starts up. |

Ask Japan. They do just fine with their teachers unions. |

But that was just a side note... there is still the question of it being illegal for holders of E1 / E2 visas.
Until they change the law the idea of unionizing is moot. |
