Granted, Yosu is really a pretty city. I like to think of it as "Litte Busan", except, it is clean and we can see the clear blue sky everyday.

Anyway, I have worked my way up the dungpile of ESL teachers, and I'm teaching with a public school here. I met the other new teachers in orientation a few weeks back. Now, I'm going to be careful with how I approach this, because you never know who reads these post. But, I just don' t see myself hanging out with the majority of these folks. I'm not trying to give out the wrong impression, but.........most of the time, I can tell who I will and will not get along with. Unfortunately, ......well, you guys get the picture.

So, does anyone know of a good watering hole in Yosu? I have yet to see any hogwan teachers (except one) walking around, and being a former hogwan teacher myself, I KNOW there is somewhere they go to drown away their sorrows after work. Granted, Yosu has about 350,000 people, so it is not all that big, nor is it small.

If anyone has the inside info on the hang out spots, please fill me in.

Thanks.

Some of the foreigners go to Elle Lui in Yeocheon on a friday or saturday (it's kind of behind the fire station). The guys who work there speak English well and do magic tricks. But they won't serve draft beer at the bar.. have to sit at a table.. grr.. I'd guess there are about 50-80 foreigners living in Yeosu but I'm not really sure. I don't hang out with them. Last time I went to that bar there were some young tools treating the bar owner like an idiot "I had *FIVE* beer. FIVE. I drinkuh FIVE beer! No six beer!", as I said he speaks English so their simplistic ranting and waving fingers in the guy's face was really rude. I told them to be more polite. They told me to f off haha. The owner gave me and my friend all our drinks for free though for being civil.

I've occasionaly seen foreigners in Wa bar in Yo-seo dong too.

If you want to hang out with foreigners you should probably head up to Suncheon, which is about 40minutes away by bus. There are two foreigner bars there (Elvis and Juliannas) which are in Gumdang-dong and YeonHyang-dong respectively. There are lots more foreigners there (maybe 150-200ish) and it's more fun. Juliannas serves good cheap western food (the owner is a kyopo from California and a really nice guy).

When summer comes around again you'll see lots of foreigners at the beaches in Yeosu. The best one nearby is Mosageum beach (much better than the 'famous' black sand beach, Manseongri)

Well, it just so happens that right after I made the post, I walked outside and ran into a guy from the orientation group. He is cool chap, and he mentioned there were some others at the Wabar........uh oh.

Well, as it turned out, it was an interesting evening, to say the least. One teacher throwing fish a a table of Koreans at the Wabar. We all get kicked out of a night club because there are not any tables (when it is obvious that there are pleanty). This enraged a teacher so, that this person "double flipped" off the door guy. I tried to explain (they are new, I've been out and about since 2003) that getting thrown out of a shitty Korean nightclub is not the worst thing in life, and it won't be the last time it happens. But, ya know, being 30 now, that means I am "old" so nobody really listened to me.

It is too bad, really. There are a couple of straight up cool cats in that group, but the rest..............?

It was a bummer in a way, because that was the first time I had the opportunity to hang out with them since orientation. And, that was about three weeks ago.

So, it looks like I'll be the odd man out of the group. Oh well.

cheers.

and I have a close friend who's been there for over 5 years, so I'm sure he knows all the places to go. And if you're 30, you're in our demographic Wink Did you go to the annual Halloween party?
