Most of my students/K friends don't recognize "Brown Eyed Girl" when I sing it at the norae bang. |

You Bet!!!
Joe Cocker used to do it for me, but then I opted for Van the Man....
I remember when his "too long in Exile" came out. A great album which brought out the soul in him....(as if he needed help!). I was surprised that I liked his folky stuff with the Chieftans so much....
whatever he does, he gives his all. That's all we can ask. I must say I am half and half about some of his gospel stuff and slow stuff.......I'm for Domino any day over Moondance...

you know it, I was so bummed that I missed him playing the Austin City Limits festival this year, if that was one week later I would of flown back
"Have I told you lately" is "our" song
What about when he did "Comfortably Numb" at Pink Floyd's Berlin Wall show?
"Moondance" is one of the greatest albums ever done
So many other incredible things he has done over the years |

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was to say he passed away and was relieved to see he hadn't. Van's the Man, no doubt, and still doing well. |

Saw him in Vancouver in '97, I think, at the Queen Elizabeth.
What a fantastic show! |

Van Morrison and Bob Dylan
Crazy Love, in Athens 1989
|
Hmmmm....I think I got cheated.
In the summer of '89 I was in Greece, hangin' out and absorbing the culture when I ran into three Scousers at the Olympia bus station. Got on well and ended up spending a nice enough time with them in Argos and that god-awful climb up the mountain in Sparta. Then we headed for the coast. Gythio. Drinkin' cheap ass retsina on a balcony with a full moon rising over the Aegean and listening to Deacon Blue...and trying to figure out what the hell these guys were saying. Hunh? What was that?
I was on my way to meet up with a lady archeologist in Crete and they were on their way to Athens to meet a cousin. We happened on a poster for a Dylan concert in Athens, stuck to a telephone pole, and I never did make it to Crete.
We did manage to get tickets to the concert in Athens. There was a little un-needed drama with about who should have been and who shouldn't have been screwing someone between the hours of X and Y and cousin replaced one-third of the original Scouser mix, but it was all tolerable (with enough retsina and/or ouzo, what isn't?).
Dylan came out and played in the soccer stadium under the Acropolis with a near full moon. After the intermission, he came back with Van. He did 'Into the Mystery' and something else. The Parthenon, the moon, the warm summer night, Dylan and Morrison. How much better can it get?
Didn't know there was an album somewhere in there.
(This is where 1/2 of you say, Hmmm...in '89 I was wearing diapers.) |

That is a good album, and it has somewhat special meaning for me. I first discovered that one in 1988 at the age of 18-19. I had been a fan of Van since my teenage years began I suppose. When I moved to an unfamiliar place I bought that album, and it among others, marked a dent in my experience. A lot of that album is sad, but has a sound like you just left the planet. It's a good one.
Wavelength, Beautiful Vision, Into the Music, No Guru..., these also come to mind
Best? I dunno. He's got a lot of good stuff. |
