My friend who teaches uni finally got hold of his next contract. It turned out it was exactly the same as his last contract minus one thing: what the pay would be or if there'd be a raise. He said he had a conversation that went like:

'Here, sign this'.

'What is this? I'm not going to sign a contract with no pay in it'.

'The university won't be able to decide what the pay will be until March'.

'Well I can assure you no sane FT is going to sign a contract with no pay in it'.

And then after much ado, 'we'll see if we can make a special consideration for you'.

I can just see this uni paying to take out a job ad on Dave's with no pay specified and wondering why no one is interested in the job.

While I understand what you're getting at, I dont think that trusting and perhaps naive - even stupid - people DESERVE to be taken advantage of....

Sheba an honorable sentiment...but COME ON!!!!

A contract with NO SALARY specified.

I agree...anyone who signs this deserves what they get...there are limits to "protecting" naive people...at some point naive just becomes stupidity.

I've said "if they won't give you defined working hours in the labor contract, then seek employment eslewhere" on many occasions. The same line of thinking applies to hours written in a labor contract.

I wish her the best of luck.

For me, it would be like a blank check.

If they can't decide, I would first asked them to sign the contract and I would decide for them and write 100,000,000 won per month then sign it. Laughing

And say, "Thank you very muchy!" Laughing

I received a contract from a school and had them revise it a bit. When the new one arrived it didn't have a salary or any other personal info on it (I guess they just changed a standard contract and forgot to fill in the blanks). I filled in my name and dates, but once it got to salary I though of how funny it would be to put a ridiculously high amount. Or a reasonably high amount that I could perhaps get away with. Like on the first payday I could bring in my contract and stub and complain. What could they do? Its in the contract!

But then that little angel on my right shoulder started yammering on about karma and trust and all that silliness. Even more silly, I actually listened to him.

But there was no way I would have left anything blank and signed it, even the dates. That's not just silly, its stupid.

Sign the contract with no salary if they delete how many hours you have to work.

Agreed. That way they can make you work 60 hours per week and pay you 1.3.

I don't see why you can't agree to write in your current salary (they aren't going to lower it) and then agree that this can contract can be amended if and how much your raise will be in March. If necessary you can write this on the margins of your contract and initial it.

Good luck!
