Hi.

My computer and camera were stolen from my apartment last night while I was out. I called the police and everything, but there's not a lot they can do, since the theif was wearing gloves. What crafty criminals there are these days.

Anyway, if you see a Power Mac G4 and its power supply has kind of a flimsy cord holder, it may be mine. Let me know. Thanks.

Man, that's really terrible. Sorry for your loss.

When I read the thread title, I figured that someone lifted your notebook in a library or something.

Sux that someone broke in, double sux they took your goods.

Just a bummer... Sad

Was there sign of forced entry?

I have heard of school staffers snooping in teachers apartments when they are teaching. I had my locks changed first thing after moving in.

Good luck

My uni was going to have apartment "inspections" last Monday (before they cancelled them day of). They even said it was going to happen whether I was in the apartment or not.

Now, with this happening, it's just another reason to get my locks changed come Monday.

An inside job would be the best case scenario for the OP. That would at least give him a trail to investigate, possibly back to the computer.

A good reason to use encryption on anything you don't want to be tampered with by others.

No, I don't mean porn, I mean important stuff like work/job related files, personal photo collections, etc...

I use bestcrypt on all of my important documents so if someone steals my system or gains access to my computer, they will have to deal with the impossible task or getting past Rijndael encryption.

Sorry to hear of your loss. A real drag, to say the least.

There was forced entry. Unfortunately, I was on the ground floor and they broke the window next to the door and unlocked the door.

The funny thing was, even when I got home and saw the broken window, I still tried unlocking the door. Like maybe the burglars had the decency to lock up so no one else could steal from me.

Dude, my heart is goin out to you right now.

Tell you what brother. I have a mac g3 ibook 20 gigs, OS X. It's old by todays standards, but I'll let you have it for free. I'll be in Korea Jan 3rd. Let me know if you want it and I'll meet up w/you via pm and give it to you. (If you're in a huge hurry, you can pay for shipping from PHX and I'll ship the old workhorse to you sooner.)

Call it a pay if forward, karmic kind of thing. Hopefully will get you through till you can save some moola for another box.

Peace!
