I spent a lot of time reading posts on eslcafe. It helped me learn how to interact with others. |

playing sports seems to work for some of my friends. there phones ring a hell of a lot more than mine. and i guess having korean friends helps if you can find ones that are genuine. and there are those waygook clubs like yupkey if you are into that. i think my social life is kind of lame mostly because i spent too much time with a girlfriend when i had one and i worked at schools where i was one of two foriegn teachers. sometimes i miss the backstabbing gossip mill of a large hakwon. reminds me of when i worked at the olive garden. |

Become a musician. Play with other musicians.
I'm a rather shy person. I do play a musical instrument, though.
I got in with an expat band here and have met so many people through this.
If I was not a musician and playing with this band on weekends, my life would be pretty dull and I would probably only know a few people.
If you're not into that, join a sports team like ScottyG said. |

that works - even if you have no musical talent, just a music fan, you can go to bars where music occurs regularly. some places have "jam night" and "open mic night" and while that is not my speed musically, it's a place to become a fixture and start interacting more regularly.
i'm sure that someone on this board will eventually say "join a church" but even if you're the loneliest person in the world i can't back that for a second. other people may back it though. |

I take pictures. It's a good way to make friends and sometimes enemies. Getting involved in a music scene is a great way to find a niche. Some of the most well adjusted people I know here I met through music. And you don't have to be a musician. |

Alchohol is lubrication for the soul. Chat to someone, anyone who looks like the sort of chap/lady who you would like to socialise with. Have the guts to just talk, initiate the contact yourself and you will find 9 times out of 10 that that person will be just as happy to talk to you. |

This is off topic, but yesterday I was looking for something on YouTube, and I stumbled across a clip of, um... a _certain band_ playing at the Big Fat Stinking Electric Cat, and who's little comment should I see? (I really did LOL when I saw that) I made a thread, which you probably didn't see because the MODs pulled it pretty quick. I guess it was just begging to be "yanked" |

If you're not a particularly athletic person, you can always go bowling. I have met all kinds of fun people while bowling. Walk into a bowling alley by yourself, and next thing you know, you're going to be surrounded by people wanting you to bowl on their lane with them. However, if you are not a terrific bowler, expect to be laughed at. Koreans are competitive at EVERYTHING, so if they're bowling, they're probably decent at it. |

I don't drink at the moment but I still have loads of fun. The secret is to put yourself out there and say 'hey.' Not everyone you meet is going to meet is going to be a life-long friend but you'll certianly meet a lot of interesting people along the way. |

Find the local foriegn watering hole and just be yourself. However, try not to hit on every woman in the bar. |

find a music scene you're into and get out there. don't be afraid to talk to strangers. taking their proffered candy is optional. i tend to take the candy, myself...
