Why should there be "right" reasons?
There sure can be wrong ones however...
Does that light your lantern? |

ok. I get it, I think. The "right" reasons are more aptly called "not wrong."
Is that right? My conscious reasons are all tangled with my unconscious ones. What if my unconscious ones are right, but my conscious ones are wrong?

Your driving desire should be to infiltrate the Korean education system in order to corrupt young minds with ideas of liberalism, feminism, independence, rebellion, and lethargy.
Any other goal is reprehensible. |

Wrong reasons to be here:
* make as much cash as quickly as possible off koreans while not really mixing with them.
* you're unemployable anywhere else.
Right reason to be here:
* Sharing of cultures. Setting a good example of the better aspects of your culture: doing a good job and behaving in a well mannered considerate way. koreans notice. be a good advertisement for your country. |

Right reason -- you're able to teach.
Wrong -- can't teach.
Who cares about the other stuff. If you ant to liquor up and hit room salons every night, it's your dime. As long as you're able to teach no one can seriously question you motives. |

WOW, I guess Im here for all the wrong reasons?
Wrong reasons to be here:
* make as much cash as quickly as possible off koreans while not really mixing with them.
* you're unemployable anywhere else.
Lets see now, OK Im here to make money and yes, as much as I can. Do I mix with Korean, yes, everyday as I worked for a Korean company. And yes, I do have lots of Korean friends.
you're unemployable anywhere else.
Thats funny how I was hired in the States to run this Korean company and then asked to transfer to Seoul and help improve the companys global image. Im retired from the same company.
Most ESL teachers are here to make money, pay debts and to save for the future. We all have our own agendas here and there is no right or wrong answer. |

Its not really the reason for coming that counts, but what you end up doing here.
Some people come for 'good' reasons and end up doing retarded things. Some people come here for retarded reasons but end up doing something worthwhile.
Doesnt matter why youre here, just use your time wisely and stop being retarded!! |

The drugs, man!
Oh, and the scenery, too. Downtown Korea - that's quite good, isn't it? |

I like what Sheba said. Part of the reason I came here was I was teaching Koreans in Canada, and I enjoyed it. Part of the reason was I was sick of Canada; I felt stuck in a rut and I felt I needed a dramatic change to get some perspective on myself. I think I'm doing a good job teaching, and that's what's most important. I'm not perfect; I'm probably not even the best; but dammit I try my hardest and I get results. |
