exactly. A push to the shoulder does not result in physical damage or compensation payments. It causes a diversion and breaks up the situation. Nice move... |

Dude love....you saw a tense situation but the cops were there or not?
Ya got me confused here...if the cops were there, you made a mistake intervening....let them handle it as it is their job.
If they were not there...different story.
As for the shove...it might be seen as a small deal but sometimes a small move like this is all it takes to spark a fight or something else.... |

| The cops were there but so was a crowd. They weren't aware of this guy being up in a young lady's face or didn't care. When someone's in a dangerous situation I'll normally help them if they can't help themselves, even if it's not my job. |

Attempted rape is not a crime in Korea? Only successful rape? |

EFL trainer...please follow the big bright letters on the blackboard....
Corporal was talking about evidence of the crime....not about the crime itself. |

Pretty much. My incident was a few years back.
I assure you that unless you can also establish physical harm, cuts, bruises, you're going to have a hard time getting the police interested.
The Canadian embassy (when I got them involved) told me that I should just drop it, because they police just won't take it seriously. "Look, he didn't rape you, right? So everything's okay!" |

Homer, why being an ass? And, sorry, but her "someone" was out to lunch. The girl herself went off in an ambulance, did she not? Guess her injuries were nothing? Nor her testimony? Nor that of possible other witnesses? Eh? Nor the continued assaults and belligerence of the alleged offender?
FYI, in case you aren't clear on the concept, being arrested is not equal to being convicted. There was more than enough for probable cause given the description of events. Hell, just the girl going off in an ambulance would be enough. |

Maybe he didn't rape her or try to. Did you even think of that? Maybe somebody else attacked her and he was trying to give her assistance. Then when he got accused of rape by some idiot he got in her face.
Bottom line: For all we know he could have been innocent. We only have the word of some foreigner who probably just wanted to sound important and made up a story. How did HE know what was going on? |

No one is saying nothing happened and no crime was comited EFL trainer.
I was saying that you seem to have miss-interpreted Corporals post.
Also, apologies for any offense...I should have been less sarcastic. |

Man, I have been reading this thread for awhile. Very entertaining and nice thread to those involved.
Nice philosophical points on the difference between "asking for it" and "had it coming".
Despite the arguments, I see some points everyone one this thread agrees upon:
1-rape is wrong, anywhere in the world
2-if the guy accused was trying to rape that girl, hes an ass, plain n simple.
Some of you guys are trying to be Horatio Caine or Gil Grissom, putting together this crime scene. Nice work, but not its not the main issue here, rape is. Rape is wrong (at least where I come from)
BTW, dude love, shoving the accused in the shoulder, isnt exactly standing up to him. Its not like you stopped the rape, you just heard the story and got hot-headed.

Good point.
But D-love still seems to have acted from a wish to do good.... |

-No matter how many times I explain it there's always someone who doesn't understand. BTW, why do you refer to me as "some foreigner?" Did I ever mention my nationality? Is my nationality important?
-Yes, he could have been innocent. Either way, his behaviour was belligerent and he behaved threateningly toward a young lady. I saw both. To that extent, I knew what was going on.
-I didn't make up a story, and I don't know why you'd state that's probably what happened. If you think I'm making this up to seem important, ignore me. Get out of the thread.
The Urban Myth: "Then when he got accused of rape by some idiot he got in her face.

Urby, you've nothing to say. Any time you post after me, that's a given. Let me state again, and try hard to wrap your mind around this: given what was stated in the OP, and only going on that as it is the sole evidence here, there seemed ZERO doubt who the perp was. That was the point of the OP. All other possibilities aside, FROM THE EVIDENCE GIVEN, if true (which is ALSO a given - that it MAY NOT BE - you numbnut), then there was far and away enough to ARREST him or AT THE VERY FRICKEN LEAST take him in for questioning.
Now, since this was already clear, and you and I both know you did not follow my post to actually add to the conversation, why don't you go spank yourself? |

True...how do you know the cops were not going to do that?
How do you know they did not do that the next day or later that night?
I mean as you said EFL...there are a lot of "ifs" in this story. |

YOU were the one that called HIM a foreigner. I was talking about this foreigner that told you a rape occured, NOT you. |
