Yeah, I posted it a long, long, long time ago.
Actually I'm at the 1500 posts mark, so I've been going through old posts that I can still delete to keep my posting at the 1500 mark. Its a challenge to say the least.
I deleted this one, then thought it might be interesting conversation, so just re-posted it
(Darn, now I have to delete something else to keep me at the 1500 post mark)! |

I've done all three and have made up an extensive post at some point (try searching for those who wish to read it).
Korean wins overall for many reasons. |

I've two friends working in Taiwan right now. One loves it, the other is sick to death of it. Both have been there about 2 years. The one who loves it says the foreigners are "so laid back and cool". The other says the foreigners are "so arrogant and cold". Both of them love Taipei and especially the fact that it's much more "westernized" (read: tacos readily available) and user-friendly than Seoul. The former leaves Taipei on an almost weekly basis and heads to the coast for *GASP* surfing and camping, while the latter pretty much bums around in the capital and does the usual bar/restaurant routine. The former has no plans to leave Taiwan anytime soon, while the latter is ready to move on.
Many, if not most of the complaints about Korea and foreigners living in Korea come from folks who live in Seoul (and perhaps they don't get out of Seoul much?). Connections? Correlations? A penny for your thoughts... |

Taiwan is definitely the most laid back of the three, and it's the only place that you might actually forget that the locals are from a different culture...and in terms of down and dirty no strings attached fun....it rocks...if you know where to look...that said, the teachers life there is much more demanding...than Korea or Japan...imho |

Never been to Taiwan but I've did Korea and Japan and Korea wins out on almost every level.
Japan is so over-rated. I met a lot of teachers there who talked about Korea like it was some kind of third-world country.
Us guys in Korea have the last laugh. Korea is much more fun than Japan and if you find a decent job you can make a lot of money for very little effort. |

I was about to make a joke about the availability of tacos being the yardstick of civilization - then I realized it's not a joke! It really is! |

Well, I also have done both.
I hardly think you have the last laugh. If I thought Korea was so great I could easily go there. It's alot easier to find a job in Korea than Japan.
Having said that, any teacher trying to decide between countries should read the link that Tiger beer posted and decide for Him or her self which country is best for them.
As for me, there is no bloody way in hell that I will EVER work in Korea again. I had a decent employer. I just couldn't stand Korea!
The only times I will ever step foot in Korea again is on a stopover or to visit some of my great students and friends that I have worked with over the years in Both Korea and Canada. |
