HI everyone

I have got 4 weeks off from teaching english in S-Korea and was wondering which of the above two countries you would go to as i don't think i could do both justice in such a short time frame.

Some specifics Q:

1) is there enough stuff to do in sri lanka for 4 weeks

2) I understand that Jan -Feb is the best time to see southern india (that is why I chose this section)

3) regarding India in general (and my timeframe) what section would be best for 4 weeks?

4) regarding the indian visa, as we live about 5 hours south of Seoul is it possible to pay a travel agent for it or even mail it in?

thanks

don't know about Sri Lanka....

but India would be good for four weeks....I did Rajasthan and some areas just to the east in 3 weeks last year....however, I did not have time to see as much as I would have liked, as I underestimated how long it takes to travel within country....and domestic flights are very expensive.

The north part was a little chilly in Jan-Feb, but the South would be ideal. I've heard good things about Kerala.....but I would avoid Goa.

Guess it depends on what you want to do in Sri Lanka. If you're a "beach" person, you could easily spend your whole trip touring the beaches. There are also a lot of "tourist" sites to see there.

India is good if you have a lot of time (4 weeks sounds good) but you'll be spending a lot of your time travelling, unless you have the cash to fly from place to place.

If you want more info on Sri Lanka, PM me and I'll tell you all I know and give you some people to contact there for tours and stuff.

PS: And DON'T worry too much about the civil unrest/war there. It almost never affects the tourist trade. Stay out of the north and east and you'll be fine! Sri Lankan people are the friendliest I've ever met!

I would suggest the west coast trail.
As mentioned by winnie, Kerala is a good choice. Kerala has lot to offer - Beaches, Ayurvedic massages, house boats etc.. Neighbouring Karnataka also has lot to see and enjoy. Further north to Karnataka is Goa and if you still have time, you must visit Ajanta & Ellora caves. I can post further information if you need.

I will say that Kerala is beautiful this time of year, though I havent been to Sri Lanka, so cant compare them. It is beautiful, though the beaches are overrated (spoiled Aussie talking). There is a very nice vibe about Kerala, less touts, way more cruisy than the north.

A backwaters barge trip on a converted rice barge is well worth the time. Periyar is a nice park, but make sure you get away from the tourists. There is a guest house just outside the park called the Coffee House where the owner bakes fresh bread every day mmmmm.....
