Hey all,

I've been teaching in Seoul about a week. At home I was a secondary school teacher so I'm not really used to teaching kids 4/5-11/12. My director said I'm doing a good job but recommended that I include more games. I don't know any for that level!? Any suggestions? Especially for the really young kids around 4-6. Would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Brian

The one that my kids love and which is quite simple is "go fish"

You can play it with the real 'go fish' cards or you can use other sets of cards ( provided there are two sets of each card)

Dont know if you know that game but i play it with a deck of cards i bought that has maybe 50 picture cards and there is 25 pictures in total...so for every picture there is two cards

Then you give each student a card and they must call out the name of the picture and if another student has the same picture, he must give it to the caller and so they collect sets of pictures untill the deck is finished

For the really young ones I just let them say the name of the picture and for older kids they have to say.."do you have...?

I also use these cards to play "memory" where I put the cards upside down on the table and they have to find the two matching cards each time

Then there's bingo

And "monopoly junior" which you can play with all ages

You can buy "uno" cards too that has some educational pictures instead of just the numbers or I guess the original uno is also useful for young kids

Cheers. I'll get out and about shopping at the weekend and see what I can get. What about more physical type games. I used to do spelling relay races with teenagers but what kind of alternative games do ppl use with very young kids?

For kindies you can use physical games like musical chairs (hopefully they'll sing along while playing) or racing games where you put flashcards all around the class and call out a picture and they must race around to find it (you can turn the pictures upside down so they have to turn it over to see if its correct)

"I spy" works too if you can get them to understand it

"Pictionary" works too and so does "charades"
