If you've ever been to a noraebang, what songs did you sing? I've only been to one once, and I (poorly) sang . . .
"Sweet Child O' Mine" - G n' R
"Alone Again, Naturally" - Gilbert O' Sullivan
"Before the Dawn" - Judas Priest
"Smoke on the Water" - Deep Purple
What about you?

Well, I don't always sing when I go to a noribang, but the "ABC song" is always a good one, or maybe "I'm a Little Teapot". Don't you find that heavy metal upsets the toddlers? |

How are the renditions of the songs? Are they true to the original--or better yet, the originals with the lyrics removed--or are they way cheesy like they are in Thailand (at least the ones I've been to here)? |

Just a few times in over 7 years.
Last time was over 9 months ago. I tend to be quiet and reserved, so when a bunch of us, Korean co-workers and fellow westerners, went there, and I sang "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Satisfaction" most were pleasantly surprised.
My singing voice sucks I'm sure, but my knowledge of those old classics compensated.
I could only do it because drinking was involved. |

The versions are a bit different. I noticed that sometimes the lyrics get botched up. Plus, on some songs, they have guitar solos that aren't as complex. Sure, it doesn't matter, but I'm a guitar snob, and I gots to have my accurate solos. |

Everytime I've went to the Noraebang I've sang Rage against the Machine "Killing in the name of"....just so I can scream "beep" you I won't do what you tell me." Talk about an emotional catharsis in the land of the morning calm huh fellas!!!!! |

Why are there so many freaks on this site who only know how to contribute criticisms?
Okay, Princess Pain in the A$$ -
It's "noraebang," not "noribang."

When you spell or type something wrong, and it has another meaning, it's not just being picky. |

Hitting those high notes is tough; so, I go low with
"Danny Boy" (I think they have it listed under Harry Belafonte),
"Cotton Fields" by CCR,
and the "House of the Rising Sun" by the Animals.
Hey, what does 'noribang' mean anyway? I know 'nori' in japan is the seaweed they use for sushi, but in korea, does 'noribang' mean like 'seaweed room'?
And to the person who asked if noraebang songs are true to the original--uh, no, they aren't, really. Unless the original is all cheesy keyboards. Maybe "Light My Fire" would sound about the same. |
