Looking for a safe, secure place in central-ish Seoul, near some main subway lines, for around US$30/night for a single. I'd like to book in advance online, if possible.

Adjuma and I mentioned this one place on another thread. Its called the Dong-il. here is how you get there:

take line 1 to Jongak station, come out exit 1 (I think) when you come out there will be a GS store right in front of you. Walk past it and English+ store, when you come to an alley with an pharmacy at the corner (not too far past English+) turn right, walk up there not too far and on your right is the Seoul Hotel. Look at the alley immediatley to the right of that that dead ends into a sauna, the Dong-il is the first yogwon behind the chicken resturant.

No need to make reservations and the adjumas dont speak much english but they are very nice. We used to stay there all the time when we came to Seoul, small but very decent. Cost should be 30-40k

If you want to spend 50-60k then go to the Kaya near Namyeong station close to the USO and Itaewon. You can make a phone reservation

Thanks, search wasn't working. You don't have to book in advance even for that time of year? Also, is it in a quiet area? I should have mentioned that I'm looking for someplace away from the bars and partiers.

this place doesnt advertise and its in an alley so they never get full

Its quiet as we've never heard much noise.

I put a number of US Soccer fans there during world cup and the loved it
