A keep reading about private lessons, people who do them, people who are looking for them...but how much extra a month can you really make? 200 000 won? is that worth deportation?

Also I would imagine that it would take a few months to line up any private lessons, or at least enough to make it worth it, so lets assume it would take 7 or 8 months to line up enough privates to make it worth it. With only a few months to go on your contract, pension, severance and airfare home on the line, why would you risk it?

I guess I just don't understand or perhaps I am totally naive about how easy privates are to find and how much money you can really make per month.

Ding ding din - We have a winner.

I dont do privates - Im too lazy and enjoy my leisure/gym/reading time (and its illegal), but you can make a lot of money very quickly.

Why should you assume it takes 7 or 8 months?

Ok so after two months you get one or two students, then a few more, then a couple months later, a few more. I meant it would take 7 or 8 months to find enough students to possibly make it worth it.
For example if for the first 3 months you only have 2 students for two hours each per week and you charge 35 000 per hour, we are talking only 140 000 won per week, or 560 000 per month....huh? is that right? About $700 CAD per month....hmmm

I charge by the month. A flat rate per student (one student alone is a bit pricey, but as more join, it becomes cheaper for all) and a 6 month contract minimum. Maximum of 5 students.

a decent month for me would be 3.7M won per month

That is about 20 hours of teraching per week

due to me following an MBA, i dropped the hours to 10, so i am making a little less then 2M per month.

You don't go out and find privates, privates find you. In other words, have a steady job, and build a base of privates slowly (or quickly), however they might come. This is normally through word of mouth.

Privates as a supplement to your total income, rather than your sole income, keep you much more sane.

That's what dumbasses that charge 30-40k/hr don't figure in, and my "friend" makes completely clear to clients before taking them on--

"Look, this is ILLEGAL. I will teach you, but I must charge 100k/hr to insure myself against the many millions of Won fine, should something happen, not to mention ruining my career."

My "friend" has not had a single client not be glad to still pay that amount.

maybe it is because i live in a small town, but why do i always find it hard to believe it when people say they charge 100,000/hour? really, are your clients just retarded? at that rate, after a month, they could pay for a plane trip to america. after three months, they could have just lived in australia for 6 weeks.

But how do you not get caught?
I mean, aren't you afraid a new client might turn you in for a reward? Where would you teach them so it would not be obvious?
How do you find clients? OR how do you know which clients to accept?
I have had some pm's saying they can make beyond 2 million a month, just on privates, but I am thinking this is just a minority of people. How much does the average person make? I can't imagine that it can be that much. I guess I just don't understand how this 'illegal' activity can be so easily sent up and can pay you more than your school salary.
