okay, so I can't find this codec package....but I know I have another one.

I started bit torrent last week-end, and found 2 files but I had to turn off my firewall to let it through- just how dangerous is this??

A few nights ago, I kept the firewall up but gave bittorrent permision to access my server, but not act as a server. This was for a music file but the light stayed yellow- and I haven't been able to listen to this file.

What else-

oh yeah-

so does this bit torrent thing actually duplicate the file into a readable file??

Trying to figure this thing out, but am excited about the possibilites it could possible bring.

thanks,

Chonbuk

I posted about a month ago about Bit torrent, but it seems nobody was listening. The software once installed doesn't have to be "opened" like Kazza or Grokster or your other standard p2p. programs. Speed depends not on your connection but how many people are "seeding" the program, as well as with how many people are downloading it (or leeching as they call it) The great thing is that as you are downloading you are at the same time uploading to other people, so that's what makes it so different and potentially faster than other p2p prgrams.
The "grandaddy" site is www.suprnova.org (note the spelling). While sometimes this is down, it uses "mirrors" meaning other sites that host it, like www.suprnova.tk This is THE BEST bit torrent site, has EVERYTHING except porn. Tvtorrents is another favourite of mine and I've been signed up for a few months now, but I have heard about that new policy. The reason was people kept coming in and trying to register several times with different names. With tvtorrents you start off with a few credits and each time you download something, credits are taken away, but if you upload (which is simply leaving it uploading once your download is completed) you get credits back to you. I simply leave my computer on while I'm sleeping or at work, and I've had no problems. I use MacFee Professional virus scan and I've had NO problems or worries.
Try two other links that torrent links: www.torrentlinks.com
and www.lickymytaint.com
Enjoy folks, and remember leave your torrents uploading at LEAST as long as it took you to download, that's how this whole system works and survives.

Hey Eamo!
Would that site you are talking about be called TVTorrents.com? I am having a hell of a time with that site. I click on something to download and wait for it to start. I wait forever, and then give up, exiting the download. Then I get penalized for doing that, and now on that site, I am blocked. I can only upload for the time being, not download.
Has anyone had any better luck with that site? What could I possibly be doing wrong? Is there anything I have to watch out for, like there are only certain shows that can be downloaded at one time? And why does it take so friggin long to start itself up???

Am I missing something here? All p2p programs do that.

you are uploading the same program that you are downloading. It starts to share before it finishes downloading.

It has a small flaw though... if the guy with the whole file takes off before it gets shared in its entirety with others, the 56 people trying to download it - from each other - all get stuck at the same point until another user with the whole file (a "seed") comes on to feed everyone.

Ah, so KC you're saying that you can download and upload the same file at the same time? That DOES sound like a big improvement.

GOOGLE IT B*TCH!

Man, I've been waiting to use that phrase on this board.

There's some good faqs out there that'll tell you everything and give you some links to start. I was wondering if anyone knew a good place to get Korean language or Korean subtitled programs.

http://www.dessent.net/btfaq/

I figure if I'm going to pirate a movie, I might as well be learning Korean while I'm at it! Wink [/b]

All I can say is I love it, in fact its put my father out of a job taping shows for us Very Happy

Last Thurs nite I got the episode of West Wing that aired Thurs AM here in about 1.5 hours on Kazaa it may of gone up on Sat and given the queues it may of been Weds or Thurs before I got it. Also finding shows like Law and Order and Boomtown which I could never find on Kazaa there

what about #tvtorrents on irc? has anybody done that?

now I really need a bigger hd but I have a notebook pc, any suggestions besides burning to cd which I'm already doing?
