Try the instructions here - worked for me! (except I used Nero)

This site gives step by step instructions with screen shots for creating a bootable XP cd using Nero and ISO buster.
First it tells you how to add SP1a to XP so that you don't have to reinstall SP1a everytime you re-install XP. That's called slipstreaming if you didn't know.

Slipstreaming Windows XP

I did this. It works great. I had to find Nero and ISO buster first though.

This link leads to a page where you can scroll down to find and download
Nero and ISO Buster.

Nero & ISO Buster

Nero is in your face when the page opens and ISO Buster is at the bottom of the page.

This is just a great site for all things XP including Clean Install of XP. The above slipstreaming link is from this site.

The Elder Geek

I have too much time on my hands waiting for my E-2. Laughing

It was fixed in a patch a nearly a month ago. Auto-update is our friend.

I mostly followed ElderGeek's instructions for changing the word 'start' in my start menu and spent yesterday re-installing everything on my PC because neither my start menu nor my taskbar would appear after the reboot. Laughing

I so love everything XP. Without it I would know absolutely nothing about PC's. My innate inability to follow instructions to the letter played no role whatsoever.

It took MS auto update 5 hours to dl and install all those desparately esential security updates and an nvidia driver update.

No harm done since I have nothing important stored on my HD and I really needed something to do whilest I lay about awaiting my E-2 and plane ticket for round 3 in Korea.

Beckerson,

I can burn you a copy of win 2kpro that comes from internal msoft, doesn't need a keycode either. Lemme' know.

Thanks. Yeah I tried safe mode but got the same result.
No problem really since I like to re-format every now and then.
I'm now using only 33% of my HDD.

I am looking for Zoo Tycoon for the wife. I can't seem to find the version that didn't require a cd to play. Tried Kazaa, Crack Talk, ISONEWS, Lunatics, Megacracks.
Got Dinosaur update burned to cd already.

Make sure you can update to SP1- that's where Microsoft is drawing their line in the sand on illegal copies.

See my post above with the slipstreaming links if you have trouble with sp1.
If you need that info then you will also need to do a search for an XP Keygen.

I haven't been able to find a valid keygen for my XP pro and I've looked high and low. Not having SP1 is no big thing for the moment (I believe most of the issues addressed can be updated/downloaded separately anyway) but at some point I'm probably going to go back to my legit copy of XP home.
