Best place to get it done is at Shinyongsun at the underground area. Cost you about 50,000won

Hi i must admit yongsan is my favorite place..even my wife is beginning to like it.
How much are wireless pc cards? Are there any second hand wireless pc cards? I have 5 pcs......2 notebooks, and 3 pcs. The notebooks have wireless cards, while the desktops only have wired lan cards...
In Gunsan they are 55,000 to order from Seoul.
Also I need 2 17 inch LCD monitors, locally they are 390-380,000.
Are they cheaper in Seoul?
Oh yeah and buy digital cameras from your home country we bought one....only 320 bucks. Here similar samsung model (even had less optical zoom) was about 1mill to 900,000 won. YUCK.

(Lemon, swooping in from nowhere to try to answer a question)
We've just moved into a house in the last few months, and with a one-year-old running around the floors, it seemed sensible to go wireless instead of running network cables all over the place for her to pull and destroy.
There's a third option - a USB wireless card thing that looks a bit like one of those USB 128mb memory keys. Expect to pay around 40,000w for one of them. They have two advantages: 1. can easily be used with any desktop or notebook and 2. they seem to recieve signals from the wi-fi access point better, and for longer distances. Maybe the USB cable gets it away from computer-generated radio interference?
At this point, expect to pay 30,000w~50,000w for either the PCI, laptop card, or USB versions of 802.11b (11mbps) wireless. The faster 802.11g is quite a bit more expensive, and for standard internet use is not really necessary (yet).

Try online if you (1) can read Korean and (2) have a credit card.
Here's one at random.

There again, shop online. Depending on the model, some cameras (and not necessarily Korean brands) are actually cheaper in Korea than in the US big volume stores like Wal-Mart and Best Buy, provided you buy on-line.
Good Korean on-line site: www.omi.co.kr
Good luck-

Yes, and online they are even cheaper.
You can get a reasonable 17 inch LCD for under 350,000. Cheap ones go even lower, but all too often you get what you pay for.

Still too high. Online the cheapest ones are in the 270-280,000w range.
http://www.hyunkum.com/index.html?brandcode=022007000079
I appreciate what muggie2dammit is saying about buying cheaper stuff, but the TFT screens themselves are usually LG or Samsung inside. If you're buying from a vendor that will support the warranty, don't worry too much. I bought a cheap LCD monitor online about two years ago that would switch itself off after 5 minutes. One phone call later they sent me a replacement which has worked like a charm to this day, even after being shipped on a boat to the other side of the world this past summer.
I'd avoid 2nd hand LCD monitors. No experience to support this statement - just seems risky to me. Any that I've seen in 2nd hand monitor stores in Yongsan looked all rode off, and definitely USED. Like, peanut butter and other food chunks on the sides and stuff.
They're cheap enough new now not to bother. |

Things I would look for when buying an LCD monitor:
Resolution - a 17" should have a resolution of 1280x1024
Refresh rate - 60Hz (16ms) is acceptable for normal use
Displayable colors - 16.7 million is good
Contrast - bigger is better, 400:1 or better is good
You can get one for anywhere between 280 and 300,000 online. Look around, because the prices have been dropping on 17" LCD monitors and many places are still trying to sell them for the old prices.
As for 2nd hand, I would back The Lemon 100% - never!

Since we're talking monitors. . .
I'm looking to buy two LCD monitors but I don't know much about them so I'm looking for advice.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to get 19-inch monitors because I like to get as much on the screen as possible. When I was looking at LCD monitors I noticed that some aren't all that crisp so I was wondering what kind of specs should I be looking for and are 19 inch monitors that much more expensive than 17 inch monitors? |

Beav - stole this from here:
http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,110483,pg,1,00.asp
Quote: |
Size: A 15-inch LCD offers about the same amount of viewable screen as a 17-inch CRT, a 17-inch LCD as a 19-inch CRT, and so on. Ross Young, president of the LCD research firm DisplaySearch, says you should expect to pay $209 to $620 for a 15-inch LCD, $314 to $815 for a 17-incher, or $559 to $994 for a 19-inch screen.
Resolution: LCDs operate best at their native resolution--which is typically 1024 by 768 for 15-inchers, and 1280 by 1024 for 17-inchers. The higher the resolution, the more data the screen can display at once. However, icons and text can look small if a screen's native resolution is unusually high for its size.
Brightness: For multimedia images in a well-lit room, brighter screens are better--say, 300 to 400 cd/m2 compared with the 200 cd/m2 (or so) of most mainstream LCDs. But as PC World's tests also called vendor brightness ratings into question, try to test brightness by looking at a blank white page in a word processor set to fill the page.
Viewing angle: If you aren't always looking at your monitor head-on, or if you want several people to see the display simultaneously, you'll want to check out the viewing angle. But here, again, don't trust the specs: Move horizontally and vertically to check for subtle color shifts and loss of contrast.
Response time: This is the time it takes to turn a pixel on or off, or to change its color. If you plan to use your LCD monitor to watch movies or play games, faster times are definitely better; don't settle for a response time of more than 16 milliseconds. However, there's a trade-off: Motion flicker increases on fast-responding LCDs.
Interface: Most mainstream LCDs have only analog inputs, but for a premium you can find some that also offer a port for digital input, which generally should produce sharper images without requiring adjustment. But using that port also requires a graphics card with a digital-out port and an appropriate cable, and DisplaySearch's Young says most people are happy with analog.

Looking to buy a PC wireless card and access point for my laptop, any suggestions on which one to get? I've heard that there is a good chance to get both under $100... |

Very basic PCMCIA B-speed (11mb) cards are going online for around 20,000w. I have one of these and the performance is just OK. They look like this:
Better to spend an extra 15 to 20,000w on a USB wireless LAN adaptor, like this:
I also have one of these. It seems to have a better range than the PCMCIA card, possibly because the USB cord gets it away from RF interference from the computer. It also has the added benefit that I can use it in a desktop or a laptop.
If you want the next speed up (802.11g, 54mb), expect to pay more. If you're just using this thing for internet, don't bother - 802.11b is more than fast enough for the fastest broadband connections. If you're planning on transferring large files to another computer on your home LAN, you may want the extra speed.
The router/access point is more expensive. You'll pay 50-60,000w for a cheap one, like this:
I bought the cheapest one I could find, and I'm very happy with mine. I live in a large concrete and cement two-storey house, and it works well from one end of our home to the other. Note that though g speed is 5x faster than b, its range is lower. But if you're in a small Korean-type apartment, this isn't an issue.
So, yeah, you should be able to do this for quite a bit under 100,000w. 70,000w if you're going for the cheapest wireless LAN card and router combo. Up from there for better quality. |

Heard you can get a DVD modded to play all regions there, but was wondering if anyone had any experience doing this, and can recommend a place to get it done. Also what this usually cost? Thanks |

"DVD modded to play all regions"- as in the DVD player, or as in a DVD disc?
If it's the former, many off-brand players (including ones sold off the street in Yongsan for less than 100,000w, or at Wal-Mart in the US for $40) will do this without any change of the hardware, usually after inputting a code to the remote control downloaded from the internet. Do a search on the internet for "dvd hacks" and you'll find sites that carry instructions for specific models. This probably won't work if your player was made by a "real" brand, like Sony or Hitachi.
If it's the latter (trying to "mod" a pressed DVD disc to be all-region), sorry, I don't believe it's possible. If someone has information to the contrary, I'll stand corrected.
One other thing. If this is you, your problem is not DVD regions. It's the wrong broadcast standard of your DVD player from Australia. It's outputting PAL. Korea's on the Japan/North American NTSC system. You can either get a PAL TV (probably hard to find, as there's no PAL programming in Korea) or get a new DVD player. Your player will never work with local NTSC-only TVs. |

Nope thats not me,
But I want to get my existing region one DVD player to be modded so it can be region free. I tryed looking up a DVD hack for my player but their isn't one, unfortionetly. And depending on whats cheaper, getting the hardware modded or actually buying another DVD player, I'd do that. So if you know what both would coast that would be very helpfull. Thanks. |
