Ah crap... I didn't know it was this weekend.
I went last year, on a detour from attending the Asian Games, and it was pretty good (except for the fact it absoultely bucketed down)
If anyone's in the area or down that way then I'd recommend going along. |

It ends this Sunday..
So what kind of stuff did you see that you recommend?
Actually one of really good friends went another year and loved it.. and he's a really cool guy.. so I'm thinking I'm going to join him early tomorrow morning for the weekend trip with a couple other buddies on a weekend road trip..
Anything you can say about it to build my anticipation? |

It's pretty cool, if you can catch the fire festival at night which is in the hohoe folk village just out of town that is cool. i think a local bus goes there, take something to drink and chill on the beach...the mask festival itself is pretty dissapointing as it is basically a huge bunch of stalls but on the plus side there are a few stalls with stuff you don't usually find in korea...nepal whistles, indian cloth etc.... |

A lot of the performances were interesting enough, though they did tend to go on for quite long. When you're sitting there soaked to the skin and huddled under an umbrella (as the performances are in an outdoor arena) you're kind of hoping for them to finish ASAP!
I didn't get to the nearby folk village, but some of my friends did and said it was good. They went to the fire festival, lots of burning logs tossed off cliffs, dancing etc and said it was good. They said the folk village was a lot more authentic than the Suwon folk village. |

I went yesterday, Well I only went to Hahoe village but it was pretty cool and the hahoe Mask dance was pretty cool. Bought some nice masks as well which was cool. A little bit chilly up there so take a jacket or jumper with you if you go. Yeah, its not a beach just a riverbed but not to bad. However, the only complaint(with all things in Korea) is that it was too crowded at the village(it was expected) so a 2.5 hour trip turned into a 4 hour one because traffic was an absolute crawl going inot the village. Sure was a long way to go just to see one dance(went to the viallge last year), but cool nonetheless. |

My guess is he's killing time in a PC bang until the next show starts. |

Yeah I figured that was possible- except for two things- if he is in Hahoe village, I didn't see anything even approximating a PC Bang, and why take the time from such a great event to address us? |

I'm home now. I missed the Thailand show. Actually the Brazil/New Zealand show was in Andong.
Things were basically split between Hahoe and Andong, although more was in Andong. I slept both nights in Hahoe.
PC-Bang was because I was in Andong waiting for the next performance.. went for a run to get some fast-food or something.. and stopped at PC-Bang for 45 minutes.. I wouldn't have made this whole thing up.. sheesh!! Its not THAT great..!!
I missed the Thailand show.. as it was in Hahoe and I was in Andong.. saw alot of good shows.. the 'beach' is on the river.. and Saturday night they had a great fire show where they throw some kind of balls of fire off the mountain.. as well as fire going up some rope or something (don't ask me details on that one).. but it was cool..
All in all had a great time.. most of the traditional pictures (like on the Lonely Planet and such).. and others.. definetely seemed to be connected to this region of Korea.. pretty cool festival.. put my video camera to good use as well.. |

Tigerbeer, were you at the New Zealand/Brazil show? I was unimpressed by the New Zealand guys, but the Brazil one was pretty cool. |

Yeah, were you at the show too?
NZ was okay.. it was kind of cool.. not great though.. I mean I liked it.. but wouldn't go out of my way to see it again.
Brazil.. that was cool.. but.. actually.. I've seen 'capoiera' way too many times already.. for some reason I was hoping it would have been something out of the Amazon OR something samba related.
My two friends I was with stayed in Hahoe because they had to see the Thailand show.. and they loved it.. (I would have liked that too)..
Had a good time though.. did you go there whatthefunk? Actually its not all that far from Pohang is it? |
