Esteemed Friends and Colleagues in the Land of the Morning C---:

Some of you will doubt my veracity, if past experience is anything to go by.

Nonetheless, here's an utterly and completely true story.

(Honestly, folks, why should I lie to you? WHY? Jesus, I lie when there's a dahsed good reason to lie, not when it serves no purpose.)

Two nights ago, just as I was returning home from work, this mise-en-scene appeared before me:

Just opposite the front door to my apartment house, a Korean man, aged about 30-35, while loudly hawking up phlegm to spit, SIMULTANEOUSLY ripped open his belt, pulled out his dick, and let fly against the wall opposite the front entrance to my apartment.

Call it Spit and Piss.

Welcome home, Tobacco Fiend!

Welcome to Korea!

And NO, this is not the first time I've encountered someone pissing against the wall as I returned home in the evening. (There are five or six ground-level hofs within 50 meters of my apartment building, and no public restrooms -- ai-go!)

My question for all of you fellow expats:

Is the man in question simply being HAN-GUG-IN?

Or is he simply being YA-MAN-IN?

Korean or barbarian?

Honestly, do any of these Koreans HAVE A MOTHER?

Is it wrong to expect that Korea should adhere to international norms of decency and propriety and civility?

Racist if that's what I am,

Tobacco Fiend

I think that takes talent.
In class the other day I did the burp and fart double.
Basically I let rip with this huge fart followed by this huge burp. The kids loved it. I call it the Bangoo terror and adds some amusement to my class though it takes a little practice.
Pissing and phleming at the same time is amatuers work.
Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

yeah, saw some guy pissing outside my apartment the other night. always nice!

but.....

in china.....

the people wash themselves in the water that is used to clean the urinals. for example, this urinal was flushing and a guy got a handful of the water and washed his face with hit. that was a nice, enjoyable sight!

by the way, op, i thought i was reading a victor hugo novel reading your post. go easy on the big words!

Seeing as how Korean mothers encourage their boys to piss in public from the get-go, this story doesn't really strike me as unbelievable.

That doesn't strike me as weird at all. I often spit while I piss. I'm a slob but then I also think being a slob is pretty common and normal enough.

I have noticed a tremendous amount of people horking up their lung butter on the pavement these last few years in Korea.

Not only am I getting used to it, I actually do it once every week or so. Embarassed

Is it something in the food/air/water...??

Instead of barbarian, maybe utilitarian(ist?).

I've seen this all over the world - from Asia to Europe to North America to Africa. I've never been to South America or Australia, but I'll bet it happens there, too. It's frequently accompanied by the smell of booze wafting off the pee'er.

I'm sure it can be seen everywhere, it's just more common here, much more common, and they certainly don't have to be drunk, it' like a national past time.
