|
|
I'm in the process of having a korean lesson once a week now, hopefully I'll learn a lot of basic and useful phrases that will make everyday life here a lot more fun and easy. Please add any if you have them.
Boring start, I know, but here is today's phrase, used for the first time in the PC bang:
Chan don jum choosayo
(Can I have some change please?) |

Nice idea rapier. How about making this a Q&A too? For example: How do i say so-and-so...?
Anyway... here my contribution:
 ...
(you will have to work it out yourself... it's not too difficult but very useful) |

Off the top of my head, phrases or words you might want to use:
"Jee-ohk Kasaeyo" (Go to hell)
"Injeong Sajeong Beoldkeodt Eobdta" (it's a LONG translation but, to put it simply, it's like "I don't give a f@#k about you.")
"kaja" or "kapshida"
Let's go
"Hwajeong shil odee eesoomnika?" (Where's the bathroom?)
maekjoo habyeong joosaeyo (Beer, 1 bottle - I want)
_____________ subject rool jo-an habnida ( whatever the subject is - don't like)
______________subject rool jo-a habnida (whatever the subject is - {I} like)
Just a few things that pop into my hunken dread at this ungodly hour.
Cheers,
Joe |

All of these have implied meanings:
Manjijima! (get your dirty hands off me, punk...)
Hajima! (do it again and I'll stab your hand with a dull pencil...)
Gabuljima! (stop farting around or I'll hang you outside the window...)
Ootgijima! (are you f***ing kidding me?)
Ahnjo! (sit down now or I'll break your knee caps...)
Tacho! (one more word and I'll rip that tongue out and feed it to you...)
Baba! (stop picking your nose and look at me, dips**t...) **NOT to be confused with BABO**
Duroba! (listen up, maggots, or I'll rip your ears off and make a necklace out of 'em...)
Oat buhsuh! (either the clothes take a hike, or you do...) |

They'll all come in useful at some point. Another one for homesick newbies just arrived and wanting to phone home:
"Chonhwa kadu hanjang choosayo"
(Can I have a phonecard please)... |

Good one, wormhole.
You can skip the last syllable in times of immediate need of course . Real men are bossy! .
尡...kotchang kaseyo: go straight ahead (useful in a taxi)
Դ...ipdakcho: Shut your mouth
...shikuro: goddamn you're noisy
?? !!...chukule i sekki: Do you want to die?? You sonuvabitch
...byol malssumul: something to say when people are over-praising you and you want to politely decline the compliment and appear to be humble)
...motchengi: fashion monster
...kakchengi: an abupt snooty person
ɼ...shimsul chengi: a grump
ֳ...moshinae: Looking damn fine!! First time I heard this used was when an old codger (in his seventies at least) was visiting my run-down apartment off south Colfax in Denver. The front door was open with a view of the laundry area in the halway...big rumped white lady that ran the apartment office was bent over looking in the dryer.
...michin nyon: "crazy woman" not to be used in jest usually, a purse or bottle upside the head is to be expected. Tone is more like "crazy stupid fucking bitch." Pretty hard to lighten it up. |
