Is this going too far? Is it appropriate sportsmanship and reflection upon a wonderful sports event? Perhaps, this will continue until the Korean team wins the next World Cup.
"The glory of the World Cup is before the eyes once again."
Korea beats Germany 2-0 Payback for the defeat at the World Cup Semifinals
Korea Team defeated the "Tank Squad" Germans 2-0 at the 2003 World Youth Soccer Champions (under age 20) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). At the Al Nayan Stadium where the Korea-Germany match was held, about 500 Korean residents in UAE cheered fiercely, shouting "Dae~Han Minkook" and playing Jing and hitting a gong while dressed in "Red Devils" shirts.

How is it unsportsmanlike?
I don't get it?
While I hardly think it 'wipes out' Koreas loss to Germany in the world cup semi-finals, I fail to see the problem here.
Please enlighten. |

I have noticed Koreans like the use of the word revenge and taking back honor and such. It goes on and on, there is no end to it. Which then has the effect of taking a great game played by the under 20 crew and making it something it wasn't. |

It happens all over the place really - England's defeat of Argentina in last year's World Cup was "payback" for the 1998 World Cup defeat and Beckham red-card. The 5-1 victory over Germany was "pay-back" for the Euro 96 semi elimination. |

Yeah, I understand that. It's ridiculous. But how is it unsportsmanlike?
I thought you were referring to the crowd going nuts.
Everybody who is a soccer fan knows that the majority of Koreans are not true soccer fans. They are using anything they can to bolster their insecurities. Lot's of countries do it.
I just sit back and laugh.
One more point. Alot of countries look at the youth championships as a sign for the future. It's not such a minor sporting event in soccer mad countries.
Again, I agree, it DOES NOT 'wipe out' or is in any way payback for 2002. Only the national squad could do that. |

Why is it unsportsmanlike, RealReality?
That's the 3rd time you've been asked now and all you've done is replied with cryptic quotes... |

You've noticed that too? Only in this thread? I personally believe that RealReality is just a computer program invented by some engineering students at SNU to scare foreigners out of Korea. |

Sportsmanship
1. The fact or practice of participating in sports or a sport.
2. Conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing.

The guidelines of sportsmanship apply to the players only.
The media and fans are free to gloat and act like asses at will.
Welcome to the world of spectator sports. That's how it is everywhere, not just Korea. |

And these journalists participated in the game when exactly? |

The game is being repeated on TV right now and in an appalling display of bad sportmanship a large number of Korean supporters seem to have gathered together for the sole purpose of nationalistic chanting, display of banners etc... |
