Is this everywhere, or just at the 7-11 in my 'hood? I bought two Buds the other day (save the elitist beer talk for elsewhere, pappy), and noticed that they're different from what I'm used to. These bottles are 100% English, down to how many calories and where you can get a refund on the bottle (145 and Maryland, respectively); the necks are longer and have Anheiser Busch logos around the base; and all other signs indicate the beer was not brewed in Korea.

What's up with that? I thought OB brewed Bud themselves. Up until this past Sunday, every Bud I bought had Korean written all over it. It tastes better now too, but that's really neither here nor there for someone who was quite fond of beer bongs as a youth.

Is this a permanent change, or did the owner of my local 7-11 skeev a case from the PX?

Maryland, not Michigan or Massachusetts?
Sorry, not to nitpick, but I find it strange that in Korea, it's actually written where you can get a deposit back on your bottle, and that the state of choice is Maryland. Hm....

Sorry, the bottle states "non refundable bottle". My mistake. AB is based in St. Louis MO, which is where I got Maryland from (I thought it said MD).

But this is no lie. I'm wondering if this will be common soon, or if I just stepped into the Twilight Zone.

The bloody thing even has it's "born on" date (24SEP03).

Don't ask me how they get into the country, but there's plenty of illegal beer and alcohol around. All legal beer imports have a label in Korean and illegal beer doesn't. Illegal beer costs quite a bit less so if you're operating on a small profit margin (as many bars and stores do) you buy illegal and hope nobody comes to inspect your beer.

Yes, it sounds like they were purchased on the black market. You got hot beer.

7-11 in Bundang, near E-mart. But don't rat out the owner. He's a decent guy; gives me free sammiches sometimes.

They do taste better, but I think the price is the same.

You were actually able to tell the difference between Korean and American Bud? That's like being able to tell the difference between Golden Retriever and Labrador poo. Who cares? Laughing

And now they have the balls to import Coors and charge as much for that tripe as Heinie!?

What's next, importing THE BEAST and charging W2500 for a can?

There's still some black marketing and theft going on.
It's gotten a lot better though. what you experienced was the norm up to ten years ago.

Just to rub it in...I can get a six pack of Guinness Draught or Stout bottles for 6.75US everyday! Very Happy Ah the joy of being a base employee. Very Happy

HardyandTiny,

You are now officially a bastardo. Unless of course you're willing to share...
