We have decided to buy a second computer and need some info. We would like a desktop system thats not too fancy but enough power, hd space etc so we can do basic word processing, spreadsheets some games, surf the net and download movies etc
Saw some decent looking systems in Yongsan in the 600-700K range with monitors though they didn't include windows etc.
Anybody buy one recently from there and offer this idiot some advice? |

Software can be "reappropriated". Someone on this board should be able to supply you with a copy of an operating system (such as Windows).

1/2 that price should give you a decent system.. burner may be a bit extra.. second hand near new is about the price you are suggesting and that type of system would be great.. software is the least of your worries. just hit the guy up, tell him to put windows on it or you will go somewhere else.. don't bluff, do it! there are loads of places that will just put in on for you. if you buy from the paper you will get a better deal and the software should be included.
950,000 i got a 17" monitor, 80gb, 512 ram, dvd combo & p4 2.66 and all the software i needed, new..
maybe pay a bit extra and save stuffing around. |

OMG.. you can get what you want for closer to 450,000 if you don't mind a Pentium 3 and a non-LCD monitor.
With operating system, and probably some stuff left over.
And to the guy who paid 950,000 -- I hope it was an LCD monitor, or you got took! |

it was the base price, this pc is much different now.. i thought it was a reasonable price since it includes many fringe benefits.
if you pay 450,000 for a P3.. that is being 'took'! |

I love computer questions and the deluge of answers when it comes to computer prices.
I got a P4 for 5000 won.
HOLY CRAP MAN YOU GOT RIPPED OFF.. I got mine for pulling a funny face.
Oh man you got took. I got mine for free by walking in the door clicking my fingers.
Oh man you got ripped off. I got mine by thinking I wanted one and BAM it appeared in my fingers. |

I got my P5 by teaching private lessons for 10 minutes to a kid who snuck into Intel and stole a futuristic version of the pentium. |

I'm considering a P3 with a 1 ghz chip, which is going to run around 300,000 to 350,000. Plus, add a decent used 17" monitor for another 100,000 won.
P.S. -- I build PC's, and upgrade/build them for friends. I'm usually at Yongsan at least once a week. Barring the occassional crazy deal you might get off the net, the prices I've quoted are about what you'd pay.
Sorry you paid so much for your computer, but that's not my problem. I'm just laughing near you -- not at you. |

i can make a call before 6pm and have anything i want done to this computer that evening.. do now, pay at some time in the future if need be.. if i need software in a hurry that i can't find or must wait to d/l, i can have it here in the same time...
paying a little extra in the first instance saves a lot of money and stuffing around later.
i was gunna buy a p4 1.5 256mb 40gb hdd inc. 17" monitor (no cd - bah) for 450,000 when i walked into a shop off the street..
but i ended up paying 1.3mill for a 2.66 19" crt 512mb and 280gb and all the software and service i need delivered to my home practically same day.
don't be sorry pal.. i'm very happy |

I'm confused... you said you paid 950,000 for the computer, with a 17" monitor -- but now the cost was 1.3 million, and you have a 19" CRT?
Do you know what you have, or what you actually paid?
If you are happy with this, then I take my hat off to the salesman. He is a pro. |

can you read?
about 7 years ago i did what you are doing now.. when you say 'i build systems' it sounds like you think you are somebody special. well, you're not pal. the op was just asking how much should he/she pay and you come in like god and say if somebody paid 50,000 or 200,000 more than what you, the ol backyard computer hack suggests, they have been ripped off.
yes i am happy. i am the salesman, i sold it to myself. thankyou for calling me a pro, i am glad it is that obvious. |

Yeah I agree with Wylde.
Derrek this was a post about how much computers cost and stuff. You have turned into how cheap you get computers for and how awesome you are.
Most people these days can build computers. Its not that hard as it once was. If Wylde wants to pay a little extra and save the screwing around. Good for him.
But there are people like you and me who enjoy the hunt at Yongsan and see what the prices are and what we can get for how much money. Since we enjoy this, we dont need to impress this on other people who dont want to spend a whole day at Yongsan talking techno babble (Which it is to some).
So congrats for being able to buy cheap stuff and now stop boasting. |

You can get a p3 notebook for around 400-500,000.
It will do everything you want it to do and should be nice that it is portable.
If you want a desktop, I'd suggest just shop around.
Don't take what people here say on prices. Prices are all dependent on the quality of the product.
So old Derrek likes to say he buys a system for xxx won, but fails to say what's in the box.
I for one am used to the best. When I used to build desktops I would buy only the best.
The last two systems I sold I think were steals. I hopefully won't have to sell the computer I am using for quite some time. |

Care to explain why it's such a bad price?
Half gig of high speed RAM will cost 190,000. That processor will cost around 200,000 for the 533FSB model, . Add in a high quality motherboard with dual DDR access, another 125,000. We're already past a half million. Add in a graphic card for another 175,000 for an ATI 9600, and boom! 700,000. Case, powersupply, mouse, keyboard. 800,000. Add in a monitor, hard drive, then toss in the software and BOOM! 1.3 without breaking a sweat.
Sure, he could have gone super crazy cheap and built a Celeron system with low speed RAM, cheapy graphic card, slow HD, and then gone all crazy pirate style with the software to build a machine for under 400,000 not including monitor, but the end result will be a machine with a fraction the performance and no legit software.
Any more apples to oranges comparisons you wish to make? |
