Here in England a rape and murder case has been solved. The murderer killed himself a few years ago, recent DNA evidence showed he was the murderer.

Sadly, we regularly hear of cases where men rape and murder women for no good reason. Apparently, there are around 47,000 rapes in the UK each year.

I know in South Africa rape crime rates are high.

Sometimes rapists murder their victims.

I'm a guy and I'd like to say I love women a great deal. I have female relatives and the idea of some men raping and killing women makes me feel extra determined to protect all women to the best of my ability.

Why do men rape and murder so much? As a guy, does it disgust you?

As regards rapists/murderers, why don't they feel the same disgust?

Why are they such vile filth?

Almost always there's a "reason"

This is much debated in the ethics and criminology wings of academia, but essentially you are going to find that the most pragmatic of the groups to believe that real (aka. malignant) "evil" doesn't exist.

Murderers are deranged or do evil acts for one reason or another. Either it be from childhood trauma/abuse or chemical imbalances, or psychotic. Sometimes you'll even find that they believe they were doing the right thing by murdering people. In their own mind, which has somehow justified murder, they believe that killing is the greater good.

Now it's hard for us to believe in what kind of mind murder can be justified. But take a look the reasons we murder people throughout history. For "freedom", for land, for "justice", for etc....Murder we've always found reasons to justify and actually, quite simply it's human nature to kill. This is a sad state of affairs but human history is littered with it.

For a murderer today the most common justifications usually revolve around their own EGO. I remember reading a profile case about a murder where a man strangled his wife because he wasn't listening to her. These are common causes of murder too. Where someone has insulted their own ego or pride.

There's also of course many many murders that are based on instinctual and selfish desires. Such as rape or lust in a preserved manner. Just simply in their own mind, their own selfish desires trumps their care for others. Sociopaths are mainly the ones I think are in this category. I tend to think this category as #1.

The thing is, people will always choose the route of their most selfish desires... at least almost always. If they can resist and do what's more socially acceptable, then they have been trained or socially conditioned by society. Otherwise, those who have found, either by experience, that following the rules will not get them what they want.

If someone let's say, had an unctronolable need to partake in necrophilia (sex with dead bodies) they could easily find justification if their selfish needs greatly outweighed the social ostrichsation. The thing is, most of us DON'T have any need or desire.

So it ultimately comes down to their own perceptions. And since everyone is unique and lives life built upon different perceptions built up by experience and the people around them, it's certainly easy to see why we have serial murderers. It's hard to sympathize or empathize with them, unfortunately though, I had a rough childhood, so I CAN and really do understand serial killers and murderers. There is simply too much bad in this world. But luckily I had Twinkies. the warm yellow and soft whitey goodness saved me from a life of depravity. It was my security blanket and taught me that life was good.

It disgusts everybody who is even somewhat normal. Sadism is sick. Some people are sick, very sick, that's all. I don't know the percentage of sociopaths in the general populations but estimates by some experts have it as high as 4%. That's really damn high. Even 1% is a frighteningly high number. Luckily only a small fraction of sociopaths commit such evil acts. I guess most are just liars and crooks.

U.K. - What is the most dangerous animal on the planet? You can discuss the "ego", the "ID" and everything that encompasses psychology and never get to the exact truth. Only the human primate has the ability to reason, discuss the complexities of life on this planet and yet 80% of the time, a humans primative brain will over-ride any logic the cerebral cortex can muster. I believe this to be the ultimate dichotomy.

Maybe 4% of the human population are sociopaths. What percentage are psychopaths, womanizers, drug addicts, alcoholics, sex addicts, overweight, balemic, scizophrenic (spelling?) etc.

It's a trip!!

This little titbit makes me chuckle in a perverse way. Quite a few years ago the punishment for rape and for murder in the UK were identical, life imprisonment, however they had to change the statutes to where rape was punished in a less severe way. The reason for this was that rapists were more likely to murder their victims because that way it was more difficult to be apprehended and either way if they got caught they were serving the same amount of prison time. What a wicked world that we live in.

In Thailand, I once saw a dump truck hit a woman on a motorcycle. She fell off the bike and I watched in horror as he revved the engine and proceeded to run her over, popping her head like a walnut. I asked my students why he would do this and they said that if she were alive, he'd have to pay hefty bills for all kinds of legal and medical issues. If she's dead, he can save a lot of money by just making a one time payment to the family--if he is caught.

They also told me that this was common practice and usually resulted in many hit and runs.
