Well, I left my hagwon in August. I had troubles with the boss etc. She was fakey on the surface but there seemed to be one tiny issue after the other that left me feeling I was the black sheep of the teachers.

I wasn't alone.

Although I felt otherwise each of the remaining teachers who has left since has left sour.

Finally one teacher just got busted for a dope parcel at school.

That has to kick admissions to the school and cause a downward spiral.

HAPPY TO BE GONE!!!! .................. from my hagwon.

I'm a bit of a freer bird now. I have new work but no chains and no massive headache.

Unfortunately the hagwon was my first lengthy job, I hesitate to say real job, after university, and they soured my view of all private small businesses.

Dude calm down.

If you have a burger at some small Burger joint and it tastes like crap...will you then conclude that ALL burger joints are crap and then be "soured" on ALL Burger joints? Laughing

If this is so, you will lead a very lonesome life as one thing after another becomes "soured" for you Exclamation

"Oh damn, this movie sucked...now movies are "soured" for me"

"Bloody hell, this girl dumped me now all girls are "soured" for me"

Good luck pal... Laughing

i can't understand people who stay at the same school for a second year. After 6 months at a school, I'm usually soured to a pretty strong degree and ready to search for something better. But, that good hagwon never comes..

I wouldn't be so quick to laugh, there's a reason behind why we make these kinds of judgments/generalizations. After all, if the first man who ate a tomato immediately got a severe stomachache, wouldn't it be wise of him to forgo eating tomatoes in the future? At least until he'd passed a few off on his unsuspecting friends and gathered some data? Wink

I hear ya. I did the 24 month stint once with a grand total of "13" days off. I say it like that because Christmas absorbed one of the actual vacation days- making it 12 vacation days. I started in Korea in Dec. 96. and only did the "finish the contract" once- actually twice with the two years thing . How many schools have I taught at????

People hopefully think Thailand/Taiwan will be better for private schools. Nope. In Bangkok I was told I'd be teaching at "a" school- singular. It turned out to be 5 different situations or more- I stopped counting. Taiwan's little method was a shocker- telling people, "come to a full time job" to discover that they wean you up to full-time status.

Anyway- I always get a kick out of how you're going to hang in Korea for a long, long time and have such brutally honest comments on the work situation. Would you say the recipe for staying a long time is the attitude- "I'll quit- but- I'll also stay and piece together jobs 5 months by seven months by 12 months so that the over all months of employment make it worth it in the long run"? vs. putting up with craziness and burning-out trying to do 2-3 years at the same school.

Ironically, tomoatoes were considered poinonous up until about 150 years ago.

Rapier,

Either your the most unlucky waeguk this side of Romania or you just have no idea how to find a "good job" or you are just someone who prefers to complain all the time... Laughing

I agree many hakwons are not worth a second year...thats for sure.

However some hakwons are or at least have the potential to be. This depends on the hakwon of course but also on you and on what you do.

Then again there are many other jobs besides hakwons. If a person is serious about teaching in the long term then some extra education would be advisable.

Also after a year or two here, you should be more than able to find the better jobs out there. This rule applies in most careers I find.

Yes. So it must have been a brave lad indeed who ate the first one.

I am fed up with Naju because there are no foreigners here or very few. I aint going to stay another year in this dump...I'll most probably go hunting in Seoul for a second year job and go crazy with the life style.

Basically the two Irish girls here before me said that their boss or my current one was always a bit funny towards them until they were leaving and then she was really nice to them wanting them to stay.

Basically she hasnt made me want to stay here and I hope she doesnt want me to stay. She'll most probably say how nice she has been to me but I aint staying.

Would you be so kind as to enlighten me as to where Naju is?
