Can I buy tickets at the door for baseball games? Or do I need to purchase online?
I want to see the first game for the Lotte Giants, but I am afraid it might be a sellout.
Which Korean baseball teams are the best? |

It's hard to find information on this stuff here, I'll respond first but I've only found a couple threads and this was probably the most useful. Most people say you can buy scalp tickets pretty easily so maybe that's the best option. I would also like to know more about purchasing tickets for Nexen Heroes games online from English websites. I couldn't find anything on gmarket for the upcoming season, as people have mentioned before, so I don't know.

I've also been looking at these websites from the thread above, which has the upcoming schedule and information about the teams.

You can usually get tickets for most games at the door. However, opening day, the all star game, play off games, and other special events usually sell out. April 2nd is opening day this year and all four games have already sold out.
For online tickets...
LG, Doosan, Kia, and Samsung sell their tickets at http://www.ticketlink.co.kr
Nexen, SK, and Hanwa sell theirs at http://ticket.interpark.com
Lotte is especially annoying because they sell tickets through their own website (http://www.giantsclub.com) but it doesn't accept foreign registration numbers.

Obviously this will depend on who you ask, but SK has won the championship 3 out of the past 4 years. |

Yes. The opening day games on Saturday April 2 are sold out everywhere, all teams, including Lotte. There are tickets left for Sunday April 3 and following games. |

True enough. The Heroes have less fans than any other team in the leauge. However they've come a long way since they first moved to Seoul in 2008. Back then they had no fans at all. I remember showing up halfway through the first inning on a Friday night and getting seats in the first row right behind the cheerleaders. There are also constant rumors that they will move the team outside of Seoul, but here they are, back for another season.
But I will say, even though you can almost always show up to the stadium and get tickets, it doesn't mean there's never a reason to buy online. If you want a good seat, like the table seats behind home plate, you'll probably have to book them in advance. |

That's good to hear, thank you. I've already declared my allegiance to the Heroes due to my proximity to line 5, so it looks like I will have prime pickings. |

If you don't mind your team losing every game.
Nexxen's opener is in Incheon against SK. |

Game maker NC Soft will add the league's ninth team in Changwon as early as 2013, and there is talk of a tenth team to form a two-division league.
Despite all the talk of the national soccer team, baseball rules as Korea's most popular spectator sport.
And yes, if you wanted to see games on opening day, you should've reserved well in advance. The league hopes to break its season attendance record this year and Lotte led the league in attendance last season. |

SK is the red-headed stepchild of Korean baseball. Or the Rodney Dangerfields.
They are the best team and have the best coach but less 'big star' players. They get no respect.
In the 4 years I have been following K baseball, none of the 'experts' pick SK as the season's winning team. This year too. First I heard KIA then I heard Doosan are going to win this season.
Season openers are not a good predictors of the rest of the season but certainly worth mentioning. SK looked great. Most of the other teams didn't. |

I have a stated goal of visiting every ballpark this summer for a game. It's nice that I could conceivably do that.
Nexen's game is going to be a drag....That stadium makes Tropicana Field seem atmospheric.
Nice to see a 9th team coming on. It'd be great if it got up to 16 teams with Ulsan, Cheonju, Suwon, Cheongju, Pohang/Cheonan, and either another Gyeonggi team or Kimhae maybe...
The only problem is that they don't have the talent base to support 16 teams. Korea either needs to get more baseball fields built in cities or bring in Taiwanese/Latin American players to flesh out the ranks. That means increasing the foreigner limit.
Also to consider is it would mean a corresponding increase in the Futures League....Korea really needs to build up its infrastructure. But hey, if you build it... |

I did this a few years ago. Since there's only 7 stadiums it makes things really easy. You could do it in 2 weeks if you wanted to.

I suppose so, but it's gotten a little bit better over the past few years. The opposing fans are always louder and in greater numbers than the Heroes fans though. The Heroes are supposed to be moving to Ansan whenever they get their new stadium finished (probably next year) so that might have something to do with why they haven't built up much of a fan base in Seoul (not to mention the fact that they suck).
The worst stadium in the league has got to be Gwangju, no question about it. Old and falling apart, maybe 2 bathrooms in the entire place with lines always a mile long, seats so small and close together anyone over 4 feet tall will be uncomfortable.

Expansion will be fun. As part of the 30th anniversary stuff that went on last week, the KBO announced a goal of expanding to 12 teams by 2020. They're also going to have an expansion draft for NC Soft next year and they will allow NC Soft to have 3 foreign players (usual limit is 2) for the first few years to allow them to catch up talent-wise with the other teams in the league.
On a side note... Did anyone notice the drunk shirtless white guy that ran onto the field during the 8th inning of the Doosan-LG game on Sunday? Does this really have to happen EVERY YEAR? Usually it doesn't happen until later in the summer, not the second day of the season. It seems like these days you'll find less embarassing foreigner behavior at 3:00am on Hooker Hill than you would at most baseball games. Please guys, you're ruining it for the rest of us. I'm also curious if anyone knows what usually happens to these people? Do they get arrested? Or do they just kick them out of the stadium? These games are on national TV for god's sake. You'd think they'd at least be a little bit worried about their bosses seeing them (assuming that they're working in Korea). |
