Towards the end of my New York days, I got pretty into stand-up comedy. One good thing about New York is there was almost always good playing somewhere. Hell, I've had Dave Attell, Greg Giraldo (RIP), and Greg Norton all do unannounced acts at a club I was already at.
Anyway, does anyone of note ever come over here? |

Why would they? Stand-up is highly cultural, extremely dependent on understanding.
The USF might have an act come on base, but I can't really see it being financially viable for any big comic to come to any non-english speaking country and do a show. |

Agreed. I wouldn't expect any good comics to come here. Just seeing if any have in the past. |

| Doubt it, have you seen gag shows? A western comedian would fail so hard here. Gag shows are ok sometimes though |

This guy was just here at the Rocky Mtn Tavern. My neighbor is a big part of Stand-up Seoul and he's having a BBQ for his departure.
He said Stand-Up Seoul tries to get a pro once or twice a year to come do a few shows. |

| that'd be kind of awful to see a good comedian come here and try to perform in front of koreans. koreans don't really get the whole sarcasm thing, and their humor tends to be very juvenile and physically-based. |

I've heard that Beijing and Tokyo get a few comics to come to their city to perform for the expat community.
It would be nice if Seoul had this too. |

Yeah Asia doesn't do sarcasm.
Comedy and live music, two things that would definetly be nice. |

Big name comics, no. Certainly no one anywhere near the level of a Giraldo, Lampenelli, Jeselnik, etc. Heck, even minor comics won't set foot here.
That said, some stand up is around from time to time. Mostly expats at open mic nights. Better than nothing I suppose. Gotta get to Tokyo or Shanghai to get anything bigger, and even then it's an uphill battle. |

Sure you don't mean Jim Norton? aka Chip Chipperson

They do, but its not often shown on "comedy" shows, more often rears its head in comics and film. |

Answer: No.
But imagine the news after making a couple of jokes that talk about Koreans (and not being Korean). Now that would be interesting. Considering most of the clientele would be English-speakers and non-natives it would be hard put to have anything of novelty without some racially/ culturally sensitive materials.
Lady Gaga's visit was just as interesting. I'm sure a stand-up would crack up the country.^^ |
