I work in Japan.
I work four jobs.
Guess what? At one university, my supervisor is from DC and is a black woman with tenure.
At a vocational school one coordinator is black and they have had several black teachers, many who are ex-military or worked on bases.

I'm seeing more and more job postings that say white female teacher. I'm guessing the next news article will say, "White person rejected for job because he is a male."

I did not see in the article where it says the school told him he couldn't get the job because he was black.

What happened was a recruiter sent him a text message saying that. That doesn't necessarily make it true. Maybe it's just the recruiter who is a racist.

You think that Korean employers automatically think about the "Quincy Black" guy banging a 15 year old student every time they see a black guy apply for a job now? Hiring a black guy would pretty much ensure the parents pull their daughters out of that school/hagwon. How many employers are that desperate to hire a teacher these days?

Yep. I've gotten rejected several times for being male.
As the market tightens, its really NA, FEMALE, WHITE, YOUNG.
If you are not, you will be discriminated against. It's reality in Korea. Appearance is king. Thats why everyone gets plastic surgery.

I saw a job advert a few months back on our local fb page. It was posted by a white american and specificically said 'no blacks'. When I questioned the ad, he simply told me hes posting what was asked.

Seems its not only Koreans that are in on this...

Its pretty tough for the guy and my heart goes out to him.

If things really, really get tough then he may consider expanding his job search to outside of Seoul into Gyeonggi do.

Maybe even consider such far flung places such as Suwon or Bundang.

I'm really beginning to think that the "2" in the newly enforced(ish) uni rule "MA + 2" refers to breasts. An applicant must have two of them.

It's his email address - if he changed it from 'strictlyjesus20' to 'strictlysatan666' he'd have had a job ages ago.

Because Koreans are evil.

Because news of the Irish girl being rejected based on her genetic predisposition towards booze made it to the mainstream media.....now everyone's piggybacking.

I rather think the reverse would apply.

Good point, Geoffrey. Even though around 30% of Korea is Christian, many English learning institutions lean toward Christianity.

The Christian 30% is the 30% that matters.
