My school submitted my graduate diploma and criminal record check today at immigration and I have been told it will take 10 days to issue a visa number. This must mean then that I will get the visa if they've seen the documents and said this. This means they must have accepted my graduate diploma then. Very Happy

You'll only know for certain once you get the VIN, but at least your documents were accepted - I initially submitted the wrong CBC (Access NI instead of Disclosure Scotland) and no-one noticed until it came to immigration, then after 7 days I heard back that the VIN wasn't being issued.

Thankfully it was fairly straightforward to get the right CBC and once I sent that over there were no issues.

Hey Ani Is that a good thing then that my documents were accepted? Do you think immigration check documents as soon as they are submitted to see if they conform to the visa requirements? Apparently immigration told the school it will take 10 days to issue the VIN. So did they inspect the documents before they said that I wonder? Rolling Eyes

No idea if it's a good thing or not, but at least they didn't reject them straight off.

For me, my documents were submitted to immi, I was told it would take a week to get the VIN, then a week later my now-employer contacted me to say I'd submitted the wrong CBC. So that would make me assume they don't really look at them until they actually start to process the application, but who knows with immi - it's one thing one day, another the next.

There's still no decision from immigration. It's been 4 days now. Why does it take so long to get a visa number? I wonder whether 4 days means my diploma has passed. Surely they would have rejected it by now Rolling Eyes

5 whole days and still no reply from immi if they are going to give me a visa or not. IS this good news that they are taking so long? They would have already declined a visa by now surely. Cool

I just emailed the recruiter to ask him what's going on with my visa. He said the school are still waiting for the issuance number. So does that mean I get the visa then? Rolling Eyes

Immigration will let the school know when Immigration makes their decision. The school will let the recruiter know. The recruiter will then let you know. Immigration, of course, will make their decision in the time-frame allotted. By "in the time-frame", I mean "at the very end of that time". Immigration will also use the checklist they've always used for vetting applications. If your application doesn't exactly match up with their checklist, Immigration will deny the visa.

Good luck, though.

Do you think immigration check the criminal record certificate and degree by checking the serial number of the CRC online? And checking the degree? Or do they just go by the apostille? I'm just wondering why it takes 10 days to do someone's visa Rolling Eyes Luckily all my documents are legit.

They probably have to process quite a few applications, not only E2, there are numerous different visas to come and live/work/study in Korea. It takes a week to get the visa in your passport too. The waiting is a pain because you're in limbo in regards to booking flights etc until you actually get the passport back with the visa in it.

I imagine they have to do things like check your degree is from an actual university and not a diploma mill, verify that the apostilles are genuine, verify the employer's business credentials and their eligibility to sponsor an E2 visa etc etc. Really only an immi employee could tell you.

There's nothing you can do now but wait, the recruiter seems fairly confident and your university have verified your qualifications, so hopefully all will go smoothly.

This is an update about my visa application.

I asked the recruiter if they are going to accept my diploma and give me a visa/

He said yes that immigration DID accept my diploma and they are just waiting for the visa number. Laughing So, those who disbelieved that immigration only accept Bachelor of _________ are plain wrong Laughing

How long for that master's? Was it 4, maybe 5, years? Someone I know from Ireland was in a similar position as yours with a 4-yr master's. Typically, it's at least six in North America. Anyway, different systems. We have 3-yr bachelor programs in Canada that are accepted by Korean immigration. Those 3-yr programs still encompass a minimum of 120 credit course hrs, if I recall correctly - which is the same amt req'd for lazy 4-yr students.

The actual test for your degree/diploma would be to see if you could get hired on at a uni/college on an E-1 visa with what you've got.
