Beers are on me for anyone who can help me get Bit Torrent downloads (or similar P2P downloads) to play on my PC. I am very ignorant about computers, and while I've been able to download folders, I have a bitch of a time getting them open. No luck so far. This is a shame, because I really want to watch porn, er, Pirates of the Carribean.

Give details. What are the file names and extensions? What players are you trying?

What's the file extension?

If it's not an mpg or avi, try Videolan.

Well, I don't drink, so I'm not gonna help you.

Laughing

As the_beaver said, you probably have .rar files, or .bin, .zip, .iso...who knows? Usually movie files are just .avi or .mpg, but you need the DivX codec to play them....unless you use Videolan, as oneiros said.

He'd better reply. He promised beer.

Canadians get very angry when you mess around with beer promises. Laughing

Here's a couple of links:

Programz

You can get Power DVD 5.0 there and other progs precracked. Just dl and install. Everyone should check out this one. Guys been around for ages. Very smooth. Fosi is a god to some.

And this one:

VideoHelp

Just do a search for the file extensions you can't play. I got everything I need to rip dvd's there.

You got that right Oneiros, you betcha, uhuh, uhuh Laughing .

Sounds like possibly a codec issue as well, since most videos/movies he'll be downloading from BT will have known extensions (avi/mpeg/etc).

Grab yourself a quality codec pack, those of you who frequent here will be aware that I like to plug the "Kazaa Lite Codec Pack". Doesn't have much to do with KazaaLite anymore, but they've kept the name for the handiest codec pack around.

Admittedly, I like to play around with lots of different formats, but it's good to keep your options open. It's also pretty friendly when it comes to upgrading individual components of the codec pack.

Google for "Kazaa Lite Codec Pack", and you'll be on your way.

As for media players, I like to recommend Media Player Classic, which has the old WMP6.4 interface with lots of new things like, advanced filter support and DVD compatibility. If you want something a little flashier, go for the Core Media player.

Both are free, and are a short google away.

Is your OS fully updated?
Lately I've seen two PC's that can't play VCD's I can that were dl'd from suprnova. I belive that's because they haven't been to windows update site for the latest version of WMP, Indeo Codecs and Dirext X. That seems to be the only difference. I haven't dl'd any codec packs yet.

Thanks fellas. Since I'm at work now I can't try it out, but I will when I get home.

And since so many people have offered advice, I guess you'll all have to split a few pitchers with me.

Keep in mind that I am self-admittedly dumb when it comes to computer-related stuff, so there is still a chance I might freak out and jump into the Han. In that case, beers are on my wife.

Hi,

and another BT question??

The Downloading rates outside of Korea are laughable... I'm lucky if I get 20 kb/s, regualarly somewhere around 9- 3 right now, with 2 other windows open-

it's insane, but I really want to see the end of Friends- the last 5 episodes- Suprnova has some but not them all... does anyone know where I can find them, a link would be great, or whatever- really really want to see it soon-

Finally saw the last SATC episode, after 2 12 hour downloading sessions-

really miss Korea-

Cheers,

Chonbuk

Sparkles are you using Div X??

I actually like the G3 Torrent program.

Pretty good with ports and lots of different options.

Cool feature lets me check the status of my torrents while I'm at work, or out of the house... :)
