If these are the "happy anniversaries" of which you like to celebrate, then you're a sick person.

It's pretty obvious that you don't give a damn about those who were tortured... it's all about politics for you.

Derrek, ever heard of sarcasm?

Obviously that title hit a nerve for you, well you supported the guys who instituted and carried out those torture policies.

That's what YOU chose.

Are you happy with your president?

The sick ones are those who did the torturing, and those who support them. That would make YOU sick.

I did write a reply to Derrek's nasty post, but as I usually do with Derrek, I reminded myself of why he merits sympathy more than rebute (education not even being an option for obvious reasons), and simply filed it away in my Derrek file. Very Happy Laughing Wink

Derrek, are you capable of having an intelligent discourse?

(That is, without all the name calling and childish antics)

So I ask again, are you happy with the government YOU chose?

Heard on npr today that Lynndie England was told to change her plea by the Texas judge from guilty to not guilty...she's getting off, heard them say he declared a mistrial.

The testimony that the defense presented was at odds with their guilty plea over issues of what things Ms. England was capable of comprehending (fetal alcohol syndrome?).

So, he ordered a mistrial and that they try to defend her with a "not guilty" plea. This doesn't mean that she won't be convicted in the new trial.

And she should be convicted and punished, just as those that were in charge of the prison. You won't see that though, only the enlisted will get the sh}tty end of the stick. To say Rumsfelt and the president are responsible is wrong. It starts at unit level.

All this stuff about England being influenced by others, her 'learning disability' etc. is just a way for her to avoid taking responsibility for her actions. Those that participated (and took pictures) deserve to face punishment. Humiliation is not torture. Just the same these reservists are morons and what they did was pour gas on a fire.

It points out the lack of leadership and training that happens in many, many reserve units.(we knew this in 91) This lack of leadership has hurt our abilities as professional military force. At any time, any Soldier could have stopped any of this. It just takes some balls and conviction to do the right thing. Peer pressure be dammed, it's not an excuse. They knew that what they were doing was wrong, and need to own up to it.

Read up on SGT Hasan Akbar's case. He's been convicted and sentenced, it demonstrates that it takes all kinds of people to make up a society. Again, a countries military is a cross section of the population it represents. Akbar wrote in his diary in 1997, "My life will not be complete unless America is destroyed."
Nice...

They said it's up to her unit commander to decide if it goes any further. I personally think it's over for her...maybe not though.

Bullocks!

It's been shown that the orders for this crap came from Washington.

If not Rumsfield, then Gonzalez and if not them then Bush himself.

It all leads back to the claim that prisoners of "the War against Terror" are not protected under the Geneva convention. That is what lead to all this and that IS why Rummy should be held accountable!

Stop protecting these sick SOB's.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A26602-2004Jun8.html

In a paper prepared last year under the direction of the Defense Department's chief counsel, and first disclosed by the Wall Street Journal, the president of the United States was declared empowered to disregard U.S. and international law and order the torture of foreign prisoners

Specialist Darby did do the right thing. I wonder if he'll be trying to live in his home town in West Virginia (or was it Maryland?) where his life has been threatened for doing the right thing.
