Just when you thought Iran's relations with the US couldn't get any lower....
"NEW YORK (CNN) -- A quarter-century after their 444-day ordeal at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, several former hostages say Iran's hardline president-elect, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was one of their captors.
"As soon as I saw the face, it rang a lot of bells to me," Don Sharer, of Bedford, Indiana, told CNN. He had served as the embassy's naval attache when the hostage-taking occurred."

Two were on TV just now. One of them said the guy was one of the 'bad ones'.
Bush said he has no information but that it raises a lot of questions.
Yes, it does. |

I don't think it's a good idea with our track record with exploding cigars and poisoned wet suits. We have not demonstrated the requisite skill in the area of assassination.
I have my fingers crossed that no one tries to off the guy. No matter who does it, we'll get blamed. Given recent events, no one is going to believe we are innocent. |

In that case we may as well do it. |

>. Some of you people & your predictable knee-jerk Pavlovianism is downright disturbing. Reports i've been coming across ( including good ol' CNN ) are challenging the veracity of the claim he's guilty as charged.
This includes the claims of fellow hostages.
Rather than shooting off at mouth & all too often flying off half C-O-C-K-E-D, for crying out loud hold your horses.
Takeover leader: Ahmadinejad 'absolutely' not involved
Thursday, June 30, 2005; Posted: 6:20 p.m. EDT (22:20 GMT)
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, left, and a hostage taker are seen in these 1979 photos.
NEW YORK (CNN) -- The White House said Thursday it is taking seriously the allegations by former hostages that Iran's hardline president-elect, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was one of their captors at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran a quarter century ago.
President Bush told foreign reporters he has "no information, but obviously his involvement raises many questions."
"As soon as I saw the face, it rang a lot of bells to me," Don Sharer, who served as the embassy's naval attache at the time, told CNN.
"... Take 20 years off of him. He was there. He was there in the background, more like an adviser."
Abbas Abdi, the man well-known to be the leader of the 1979 hostage-takers, told CNN that Ahmadinejad, the Tehran mayor, "absolutely was not" part of the event that involved the captivity of 52 people.
Abdi later became a supporter of reformist President Mohammed Khatami and was recently released from jail for advocating closer ties with the United States.
Iranian officials also deny Ahmadinejad was involved. |

This smells of another propaganda smear, trying to build a case to go to war with Iran. |

20-year-old cross-racial eye-witness testimony that is also being disputed by other eyewitnesses? Not exactly like having his fingerprints. |

Nobody has less credibility than Washington these days.
Perhaps the same level, but certainly not less. |

"Cross racial recognition". Thats scientific validation of "they all look the same to me". Its been explained to me that Iranians are Caucasians so I'm not sure how that explanation is valid as long as other Caucasians are making the claim.
I'm surprised the CIA took so long to make a link. Certainly in the case of Iran, they have plenty of people that study every they can find and certainly on the candidate like that. This story seems to have a big a big "whoops" attached to it. |
