It hasn't died its just morphed and changed with the times.
The 60's and 70's had the greats and the don't compare to todays music, but there are still some really good rock bands playing today. |

| Don McLean thinks it died on Feb. 3, 1959. I think that's about right. By '64 or so it had morphed into rock. |

The spirit of rock 'n' roll has never died and probably never will as long as young people scorn at their parents generation and come up with their own way of doing things.
I must admit, though, to being very dis-heartened with music during the 'post-Smiths' and 'pre-Nivarna' period. I think that would be around 1987 to 1991. Nothing but dross was making the charts. Lots of cool underground stuff but the mainstream was at the height of it's commercial awfulness.
Milli Vanilli anyone? Vanilla Ice? Whatever their names were. |

| ..hanging around HongDae the other day.. filled with hip-hop and techno/dance/what-have-you absolutely everywhere.. but when you find a bar with 'rock music', you find yourself in what the young and hip would consider an 'older persons bar'. |

...and then you go to one of several live music venues and see loads of kids rocking out to live music. Guitar, bass, drums- same as it ever was.
There's more choice now that's all |

You need to visit Cheongju mate, we have some really good rock bars here. |

If you live in Daechi-Dong, check out CCR behind the Lotte department store at Hanti Station. The owner has a huge collection of classic rock on vinyl. When you order a drink, the waitress also brings you a request sheet. Nice pub, clean, and the staff are great.
If rock is dead, no one told the guy who runs this bar...
All Korean pop music is awful. When I hear a K-ballad, I repeatedly punch myself in the nutz because that pain is more bearable than the agony in my ears. My screams also drown out the music.
