I would like some international aid, but ROK Army units????

I don't much care for gang-banging, but neither do I have any desire to see the citizens of NO indiscriminatly massacered.

I was talking to a ROK Army LTC who's stationed here in AZ this morning.
I wonder what he'll have to say about this.

I reckon I'll ask him next week. If this thread is still running by then, which I doubt, I'll let ya'll know.

Typical mis-reporting, ONE yankee mentioned it as a sarcastic joke. This person was just an average Joe off the street. Jeez, K papers seem to get worse every year.

I think I might demand that Australian troops get sent to Dokdo.

I'm sure we'll be reading headlines like

NEW ZEALAND REQUESTS AUSSIE TROOPS IN KOREA!

or perhaps I could request lamb be served in all restaurants in Seoul

NZ DEMANDS LAMB IN ALL SEOUL RESTAURANTS!

Sheesh!

The article itself wasn't as misleading as the headline. It states clearly that it was just one caller demanding that Korean, along with French and Dutch troops, be sent in.

I think the guy was just speaking out of frustration, listing off whatever countries came into his head.

I can think of about 100 some thousand in Iraq I'd like to see sent there first.

I'm sure you've all seen this or something like it by now, but here is a sort of CNN roll-up of foreign aid offers.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/04/katrina.world.aid/index.html

If it's posted elsewhere already, sorry.
Not taking time to look.

Wouldn't take a rocket scientist to say that the U.S. won't be taking the offers of help from Cuba, Venezuela or Iran. Wink

What are the chances the writer is an ex-ESLer? Pretty good, I'd bet.

Actually, they have ....

Middle East

Qatar has offered the United States $100 million to assist in the humanitarian crisis triggered by Hurricane Katrina.

Saudi Refining, a Houston-based subsidiary of state oil firm Saudi Aramco, will donate $5 million to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts for hurricane victims.

Iran has offered to send humanitarian aid to hurricane victims, Reuters reported. "We are prepared to send our contributions to the people through the Red Crescent," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told Reuters.

It is Kuwait who have (yet) to offer help. Although a senior spokesman stated that as this was Allah's visitation on unbelievers, that might be a while coming.

(Personally, I hope not, I lived in Kuwait for 4 years and such a sentiment sits ill with my experience of the haji in the street.)

I thought I heard this morning that Kuwait made the largest offer of aid so far.

I think it was like $50mil plus oil.... or maybe that was including oil, I dunno.

I dunno, we already buy oil from Chavez don't we?
If so, I imagine we'll have no qualms about a price cut.

Good to hear about the Kuwaitis.
