|
|
Ok so my friend is over to visit and is visiting all the sites in seoul while I am at work. However I would like to take her out of seoul this long weekend to experience a different side of Korea.
Where do you think I should take her? I had thought of maybe sokcho/seoroksan area or gyeongju. For hiking areas do they have easy relativly short hikes? (a few hours as shes not too into long walks!)
Also how long is it likely to take to get to wherever you suggest considering it is a long weekend and everyone and thier dog will probobly be out in their cars (therefore should I take a train to avoid hellish traffic jams?)
Ta in advance and enjoy the long weekend everyone! |

Andong Mask Dance Festival from Sept 30-Oct 9th.
Andong is 3.25 hours from Seoul, 1.2 from Daegu... the festival is super fun...
Despite what your misinformed Korean co-workers might tell you, the festival site is right in town, you'll see it from the bus as you pull in. Lots of big balloons flying above it, 10 minute walk from the bus station. |

Don't go to Gagwha-do. Took my wife there before we were married, I'm lucky she still wanted to marry me. |

Oh yeah. I should have mentioned that. I'll be there too, first, on Saturday before heading to Andong on Sunday.
The lanterns are to commemorate the local militia of common folk who withstood the Japanese in a fight. The city has a nice river passing through it with great walkway paths and a castle/walled fortress alongside. The lanterns glow beautifully in the dark, is quite a sight. Other events are planned. It's quite a big deal from all I've heard. Worth checking out, since the city itself is nice enough.
Lots of festivals in Korea. So many that they are no longer "special events" in my mind, just "things" to go to (less special seeming, but just as nice).
Great time of year too, not too hot, not too cold. October is my favourite month in this country (May is back in Canada). |

Thanks. |

Not for an indytruck
But seriously, I have no idea. I'm coming from Geoje Island via Tongyeoung. Jinju is to the north of here. The roads are usually good on the weekends.
But if you make it there and wanna, give me a PM. We could do dinner. |

If anyone wants to meet me in person and is at the Andong Festival, I'll be the one interviewing Koreans between the main mask dance stage and the stage with allthe fancy lighting above it. |

those at the fortress used to communicate via the lanterns- code was going on at this time. I also believe at the same time- well part of the festival is a great display of silk oh and the traditional bull fighting will be a feature. The river looks amazing - its all set ready to be lit. Huge coloured things will be floating on the river. theres soo many of them.
They also have a world lantern contribution going on a lantern representing every country will be lit. Everyone can participate for a small fee lighting a lantern I mean- festival free. The festival is going for 10-12 days.
Hey van islander i'll be in town too, would be nice to see you - if you dont mind i'll join you for dinner too.
I highly recpmmend that everyone brings a fab camera- bugger wheres mine- oh yeah on my phone? shite . Is the camera guy on jeju do interested in heading out this direction for the weekend?
Bugger no one at school told me we have a long weekend. am always last to know!
