The holidays are up and coming. I started pricing out flights to different spots. Man.....oil prices have really done us travelers in. Good luck! Anyone going anywhere special?

We were pricing out trips back to The States. Expensive to go back home to visity the family. Sad

2 round trips to Jeju Island cost me 330,000 by Asiana. That's not this weekend, that's 2 weekends later.

This weekend, it's 600,000.

So nice of travel related companies to gouge their own 'brothers and sisters'.

Plato - The airfare cost to Thailand has not come out yet. The discounted tickets will come out mid to late Nov. I was told that if there are discount tickets this year it will be about 500,000 but could be as high as 600,000 won. A bit more if you are heading to Phuket. Reserve now though because the seats are going fast especially on Thais Airlines.

Ah Yes, thoughts of Margaritas on the beach happening in my head Cool everday. The countdown has begun. Anyone else going to Thailand for Christmas?

Hey, most of us do that sort of thing in a private room at home.

It's not December, but I will be leaving for Bangkok in 2 weeks, and my cost will be 380,000 after tax. Thank-you to whomever posted about shoestring travel in Hongdae! Nice place!

http://www.shoestring.co.kr/en-main.htm

I got tired of the travel agents at the other place "losing" my reservation because they probably found someone else to pay at a higher price. What the heck is a reservation for in Korea, anyway?

Shoestring was 40,000 won cheaper, anyway!

Teah travel agencies doing in their customers near holiday time...it never happens. It especially never happens outside of Korea. Air Canada never does that..no way...they are always looking to save their customers money at holiday time, heck they lower the prices at x-mas... Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

In all seriousness, we flew to Canada in late august/early september and our tickets (return Busan-TO) cost us 940 000 won each plus a fee for flying with the baby. You just have to shop around. Also, if you travel in the high seasons then the prices will be higher, every agency does this, the world over, its called maxing your profit margin due to higher demand, i.e. many people travel at those times of the year.

Using the transcripts supplied by your ISP we can see that what you actually wrote was:

"relaxing on a beach with Penis MightierTM in hand whilst soaking up a few rays..."

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.....someone standing up for Korean travel agencies.
Homer. Face it, the travel agents here suck.
You might have to stand up for every aspect of Korean culture in every other regard to make yourself feel better that you're stuck here (for the rest of your life, lol), but let's face it, the travel agency industry in Korea is horrendous. They use a booking system that I've seen nowhere else on Earth, because let's face it, even it deepest, darkest Niger it would be laughed at. Secondly if an agency back home undertook similar business practices as seem to be standard behavior here (bait and switch, false advertising etc.) they would be closed down by the appropriate government agency / ombudsman in a FLASH.
You can stand up for the industry all you like. I've flown perhaps 100 international flights in my life and I've never had a problem. Anywhere.
Except here. Missing tickets, changed prices, ultra overbooked flight and forced bumping.
I'm not sure if it's as a result of ultra dishonesty, or ultra incompetence but the Korean travel agencies in my opinion are undefendable. To try and stand up for them is a joke.

Hmmm. Prior to your post did someone indicate that this was a Korean problem? Seem to be rather instantly defensive about the new homeland, seeing insults where there were none.

Tevor,

Not standing up for travel agents in Korea... Rolling Eyes

How did you get that idea?

I was pointing out the stupidity of singling them out for price gouging round holiday time (i.e. High season) when all travel agencies the world over do this.

Zed..ditto.

I thought that was rather obvious to anyone who has basic common sense and a bit of travel experience.

As for the travel industry in Korea..it is definitively not the best I have dealt with. The booking system is not very effective but it seems to work for the vast majority of Koreans who use it.

I have had my share of early problems with making travel arrangements here, but just learn the ropes of it, figure it out and stop whining about something you cannot possibly change!

You might want to try looking in the mirror before throwing baseless accusations around, you pontificating little ass.
You wonder why people laugh at your opinions and don't take anything you have to say seriously...?
Hmm. Wonder why. Rolling Eyes

Me niether. I can safely say it's the worst.

Essentially because they don't know any better. I'm sure as they start to work out the ways of the world they'll hopefully not be totally culturally dogmatic and will understand that aspects such as this are definitely best changed to a more customer friendly, usable system.
