First, I have not been in th US in years. Second, I have not been in the South for decades. Third, even if I had, I do not follow hip-hop culture or any relatively younger generation stuff closely at all, so even had I been in the US maybe I would not have known of these things.

Irregardless of any of the above, the printing press was invented in Asia first. But it was independently invented later in Europe. Both were validly called "inventions" because they were done completely independently. Multiple societies around the globe seperately invented numbers, alphabets, plows, housing, communities, astronomical observation sites, pyramids... need I go on?

So, whether that group of letters had been tossed together to mean something by others is of no consequence. Sitting at a computer not but a few days ago I was trying to describe a state of being. Funk came to mind, but didn't really seem to fit. For some reason krunk, the joining of Korea and funk popped in my head. Probably because my funk was completely due to living in Korea. So I posted. It was thus invented.

Do I further need to actually explain that cat and cat are NOT the same word? One being a feline, the other being a cool guy. Nor are ward and ward: one being a socio-politico-organizational area of a city, the other being a juvenile for whom one is responsible. Nor are Smith and smith: one being a name, the other the occupation out of which said name was derived. Nor are curl and curl: one is a verb meaning to bend in a circular direction, the other being an actual curl, such as of hair. Nor are coke and coke...

OK?

You may care to say that the k-r-u-n-k spelling had been invented previously, but you cannot say it was not re-invented. And, you absolutely cannot say that krunk, as in "to be in a krunk" had been previously invented.

This has been a public service announcement that should have been absolutely unnecessary. Rolling Eyes

Hey, I'm not trying to get your panties into a bunch and offend you for thinking you invented a word when you didn't, I'm just trying to help you realize that the word you think you "invented" has been in use in the United States for years and you probably heard it at some club or some commercial and subconsciously came up with it on the spot. Either way, I could give a rats ass, the word has been in use for years and if you say it in the states or anyone that is from the states (and has lived there for the past couple years) you will get laughed at. I'm just trying to help you not get in a deeper funk but I think I'm failing.

Ervin, what we have here is a failure to be logical. I did, in fact, create that usage of those phonemes and letters to mean being in a funk due to living in Korea. Not that this is in any way important. But I seriously do not understand why you fail to understand the logic.

While I appreciate your perspective on the possible social goofs I may make, I would not be likely to say to an acquaintance in the US:

"Dude, I'm in a krunk."
"Really? You on E, man?"
"No, I'm just really uncomfortable with my life in Korea."
"You must be doin' somthin' 'cause this here ain't Korea."
"Ah, must have been a flashback."

Smile

If I followed your logic I could just start making up meanings for any word I chose and claim it as new or invented. It doesn't matter that you think you made it up, I'm arguing that the "patent" or basis for the word has already been established and to move onto to something different for the love of God. Instead of arguing phenomes and letters and dual meanings, why don't you just make up a new word that hasn't had a stake claimed to it years ago? If you need help, than all you have to do is ask. Besides, I like the original meaning of Krunk - to get hyped and faded in a club and enjoy the shit out of yourself.

In fact, you could. Why not? However, I did not purposely hi-jack krunk. It was happenstance. Why the big deal?

New meanings and usages of words happen all the time. It is part of how language changes. Why does it bother you so? Crunk was only recently a new word, so again, what's the big deal? Maybe we should never have started making "rap" because it was a new word, but rap on the door, rap (as in talk 60s-style) and wrap a package already existed, so... Those damned rappers have no right to use rap!!! By extension, hip-hop must go, too!!

Please... Razz

Dear god you are annoying. You win, use it any way you want. If I hear someone use that word on the street under your definition I am going to sock them in the throat...so fair warning. I also think I know why you are in a krunk...because you keep krunking arguing all the god damn krunking time and don't know when to krunking concede a loss.
