For me, John Carpenter's Halloween theme narrowly beats Tubular Bells (the theme from The Exorcist).
Any other great and memorable ones?

In terms of horror films, nothing beats the theme from Jaws.
I also quite like the theme in John Carpenter's The Thing |

Jacob's Ladder Title theme, there's nothing creepier! Maurice Jarre is a tricky s.o.b. the theme relaxes you, comforts you, lulls you... then it turns slightly confusing, somewhat dissonant, a little sour... and then the terror builds, slightly at first. Seriously, listen to the sound track alone in the dark - I dare you!

Nothing creepier than a little girls voice. |

The Shinning "Here's Johnny!"
Poltergeists "They're here!" (what is it with little girls voices ) |

Final Words:
Quote: |
Final report of the commercial starship Nostromo, third officer reporting. The other members of the crew, Kane, Lambert, Parker, Brett, Ash and Captain Dallas, are dead. Cargo and ship destroyed. I should reach the frontier in about six weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up. This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo, signing off. |

Yeah, John Carpenter's The Thing and its tense, synth soundtrack. Love that mad movie.
Here are some interesting links about the movie. http://www.bigdeadplace.com/the_thing.html
I dunno if you could call A Clockwork Orange horror but the soundtrack there is nice too. |
